Joseph Gordon-Levitt To Play Ant-Man? Actor Denies Rumor
Is Joseph Gordon-Levitt going to suit up to play Ant-Man? Rumors have been circulating this week that the Don Jon star could be Marvel’s next superhero but you probably shouldn’t get too excited just yet.
Gordon-Levitt said that there isn’t any truth to the rumor.
The actor told Cinema Blend that there is always going to be a new rumor (just look at the ongoing Fifty Shades Of Gray debacle) and that his fans shouldn’t believe anything until they hear the news from his mouth.
Gordon-Levitt said: “There are always rumors… I talk a lot about my future projects, so if you haven’t heard me talk about it, it means it’s nothing but a rumor. People like to write about [rumors].”
This isn’t the first time Gordon-Levitt’s name has been tossed around for a superhero. He appeared in The Dark Knight Rises and was been rumored for the lead in Doctor Strange. The actor was also reportedly up for the role of Star-Lord in the new Guardians of the Galaxy movie.
Of course, all of those are just unverified rumors.
From a studios standpoint, Joseph Gordon-Levitt would be the perfect actor for a movie like Ant-Man. The comic doesn’t have the built in audience like Batman or Superman but an actor like Joseph Gordon-Levitt could bring credibility to the role.
But from a career standpoint? JGL’s popularity is skyrocketing at the moment. He just made his directorial debut and has a lot of leeway for his next project. Do you think he really wants to play Ant-Man? Joseph Gordon-Levitt didn’t flat out deny the rumor but I wouldn’t bet on the actor jumping into the comic-book world just yet.
