‘Star Wars’ Rumors: Karl Urban Doesn’t Want A Role In ‘Episode VII’

Although everyone and their grandmother wants a role in Star Wars: Episode VII, apparently Karl Urban doesn’t have any interest in signing on for the sequel.

The Star Trek Into Darkness star definitely has plenty of cinematic sci-fi experience. However, that doesn’t mean he’s ready to take a trip to a galaxy far, far away.

During his chat with the folks at IGN, Karl Urban said he had absolutely zero interest in landing a role in director J.J. Abrams’ highly-anticipated sequel. However, this doesn’t mean that the Dredd star isn’t a huge fan of the beloved franchise.

“I grew up watching it. That was the Holy Grail for me. I was a fan of Star Trek growing up. Star Wars was it. Star Wars was like… I remember waiting for two to three years for that next installment, for Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi,” the actor explained to the website.

He added, “I just love that universe, but that being said, I have no desire to be part of it. I don’t see the worlds of Star Trek and Star Wars joining. I’ve made a commitment to Star Trek and I’m going to keep it. It wouldn’t feel right to me.”

Karl Urban already has a number of big franchises under his belt. In addition to Star Trek, the actor appeared in Peter Jackson’s Lord of the Rings trilogy, two of the Riddick flicks, and one installment of the Jason Bourne movies. He also had a recurring role in Xena: Warrior Princess back in the day.

Although he doesn’t want to get involved with Star Wars, Urban is definitely interested in returning to the Dredd franchise at some point in the near future. The actor recently said he would reprise his role if the sequel is ever given the greenlight.

“I think the more people that campaign for it, the more people that email, Twitter, and write into Lionsgate and say ‘we want to see more of this’, then the more likelihood that we’ll get to see that. We certainly are doing everything we can to ensure that happens,” he recently said.

If you’re a Dredd fan, then you probably need to investigate this online petition. At this moment in time, Lionsgate has no plans to piece together a follow-up.
