A new Batman Superman movie was announced this weekend at Comic Con by director Zac Snyder. The film will pair two of DC’s biggest superheros but it will not bring Henry Cavil, who starred in Man Of Steel, and Christian Bale, who starred in the Dark Knight series, together on the big screen.
Snyder confirmed that the Man Of Steel sequel will see much of the original cast return. Henry Cavill will be back as Superman. Amy Adams, Laurence Fishburne, and Diane Lane will also return for the Batman Superman movie.
Snyder said: “I’m so excited to begin working again with Henry Cavill in the world we created, and I can’t wait to expand the DC Universe in this next chapter. Let’s face it, it’s beyond mythological to have Superman and our new Batman facing off, since they are the greatest Superheroes in the world.”
As for the cast of The Dark Knight, well, it doesn’t look like many of the actors will be signing up for the new film. Bale has already hung up his cape and it’s doubtful that Snyder digs into the Dark Knight cast without their caped crusader on board.
Bale said: “We were incredibly fortunate to get to make three [Batman films]. That’s enough. Let’s not get greedy,… It’s a torch that should be handed from one actor to another. So I enjoy looking forward to what somebody else will come up with.”
David S. Goyer, who is writing the new Batman Superman movie, added that the universe created by Christopher Nolan in the Dark Knight series does not exist in his Superman world.
Goyer told MTV: “The ‘Dark Knight’ films do not exist in the same universe… The fact that we have Wayne Industries on the satellite, Bruce Wayne exists in this universe.”
Which brings us to the question: Who should play Batman?
Christian Bale, Michael Keaton, George Clooney, Val Kilmer, Adam West and a few other actors have put on the mask. The Batman Superman movie isn’t scheduled for release until 2015 so fans of Batman will have a few years to let Bale’s performance fade away. Still, those are some pretty big boots to follow.
