Tourist Bus Crash Kills Two In Turkey [Video]

A bus crash took the lives of two Scandinavian tourists visiting Turkey.

The deadly incident that occurred in the Mediterranean beach resort city of Alanya on Friday was caught on surveillance video. Twenty seven passengers from Sweden, Norway, and Denmark were on board the bus when it veered out of control and flipped over on its side. A Swedish teenager and a senior citizen from Denmark were tragically killed in the crash. The young man was transported to a local hospital for treatment but his injuries proved fatal, the Hurriyet Daily News reports.

Other passengers suffered minor injuries in the accident according to a spokesman for the Danish Spies travel agency. He also noted that some of them were already returning to their home countries, the AP reports.

The actual cause of the bus accident is under investigation by police.

The tourists on the bus were on their way back to their hotel in Alanya after an excursion to the Taurus Mountains area when the accident occurred.

The footage embedded above shows the passengers climbing out of the flipped-over vehicle while bystanders at the scene attempt to assist them.

According to a Ving tour company spokeswoman, “We are doing everything we can to provide support to the victims and to those who lost a family member. We are also in contact with the Norwegian Seamen’s Church which have representatives there for those who want to talk and we have had contact with SOS,” Sweden’s The Local reports.

The Swedish Foreign Ministry is sending officials to Alanya in the aftermath of the bus crash there.

Alanya heretofore has been a preferred tourist attraction in part because of its warm climate. Alanya alone is said to account for nine percent of Turkey’s tourism revenue. It is also a popular location for foreign real estate investment.
