The new ads (one of which is embedded below for your viewing pleasure) feature Star Trek legend Shatner in his usual “Negotiator” role, but this time with a co-star: Big Bang Theory actress Cuoco joins Shatner as his daughter.
Conveniently enough, she’s been trained rigorously in the science of deal-making, and the father-and-daughter pair join forces to sell Priceline.
Despite the age gap between the two performers – Shatner is 81 (though still looks about twenty years younger) and Cuoco is 27 – Cuoco said the pair got on famously, having “way too much fun” while making the ads. The Big Bang Theory star also credits Shatner with making Priceline “cool.”
That may be so, but it also seems Priceline is keen to draw in younger consumers, and the company was keen that Cuoco joins Shatner for the new campaign. In some ways, the two are a good fit: as Cuoco points out, there’s a shared geek vibe in Star Trek and Big Bang Theory. The actress remarks:
“The nerdy factor, the Trekkie stuff, it goes with ‘Big Bang’ and it all worked together.”
Shatner seemed fond of Cuoco as well, describing his co-star as “quite a talent”.
Plans are already settled for two further commercials (to be shot this summer), but in the meantime Cuoco joins Shatner for her Priceline debut from January 14. You can see the first spot for yourself below:
