More ‘Twilight’ Fan-Fic Being Published: Edward And Bella Do ‘The Office’

Another “epic” piece of Twilight fan-fiction is being turned into an honest-to-goodness novel, a la Fifty Shades of Grey.

You’ll either squeal with glee or shake your head with disillusionment. In a trend that sort-of reflects the “instant fame” granted to reality TV stars, the publishing world is giving yet another shot to a piece of derivative Twilight fan-fiction. E.L. James achieved nearly overnight success with her BDSM-esque mommy porn psychological torture story Fifty Shades of Grey. All she had to do to get it was “find and replace” Edward and Bella with Christian and Ana in her smutty Twilight fan-fiction piece.

Now, authors Christina Hobbs and Lauren Billings have done pretty much the exact same thing: Create an “epic” Twilight fan-fiction piece (called The Office) and land a publishing deal, according to MSN.

Yes, the Twilight fan-fiction piece in question is called The Office. The piece was written and published online in 2009, which was technically before Fifty Shades became a thing. The story is pretty much exactly what you might divine from the title and the genre.

Edward and Bella do Fifty Shades in the corporate office environment. So, like the title, imagine a hyper-sexualized Edward and Bella as Jim Halpert and Pam Beesly on NBC’s The Office.

The duo’s tale of the sexy underworld of the vampiric corporate grind will, of course, be rewritten (and by rewritten, we mean “use find and replace” on character names so as not to incur the wrath of Stephanie Meyer) and ultimately be published in 2013 under the title Beautiful Bastard (so as not to incur the wrath of Ricky Gervais), according to The Hollywood Reporter.

What do you think? Is fan-fiction being turned runaway success novel a disturbing publishing trend, or should someone who writes plagiarist meta-fictions be rewarded for their “hard work?” You can probably tell how I feel, but I want to hear it from you. Sound off!
