Melania Trump Breaks Out From Her Behind-The-Scenes Persona [Opinion]

Melania Trump might just fit right into that old adage your grandmother was fond of, the one that suggests “still waters run deep.” While seemingly quiet and very much out of the public eye, this future first lady surprised many this week with a trip to a Maryland courtroom. Melania did this on her own behalf without any fanfare involved. She wants to see justice done for an alleged wrong against her, and by being in the courtroom, Melania feels it shows that she’s committed to this cause, according to her lawyer.

Her trip to the courtroom indicates Melania is serious about this case, and her willingness to follow this through points to a woman who stands with her convictions, but a new poll indicates people might not see her in this light. Not too many people are holding on to hope that Melania will become a superb first lady. With one quarter of the adults recently polled believing Melania Trump will make a “poor” first lady, it appears she’s got a lot of work to do to change their minds.

Adults in this nation don’t see a future in which this former model will emerge as an “excellent” first lady, as only 13 percent believe Melania has that quality to achieve excellence. This outlook for Melania Trump is indicated by the latest McClatchy-Marist poll, according to the Washington Post.

Since Donald Trump announced his intent to run for the vacating seat in the Oval Office, Melania has stayed mostly behind the scenes. She rarely emerged from her husband’s shadow during his campaign, but she did make a showing a few times when she was needed to plug Donald Trump’s bid for the White House.

Mrs. Trump just might surprise the masses, as she did a while back when she sent that letter around to various outlets when a fake news story about her circulated online. The fake story reported that Melania had belonged to an escort service years ago before she met her husband. She originally sounded like a woman who wasn’t about to let anyone get away with presenting a false news report about her, but then it seemed to die down, with the emphasis on “seemed.”

While many media outlets retracted the story and posted apologies, Melania wasn’t bluffing as some may have thought. She not only went ahead with the lawsuit, but she also showed up in court this week when she didn’t need to be there. As USA Today reports, it was only a court conference and her presence wasn’t required, but she went to show her “commitment to the case.”

The lawsuit involves only two defendants, one media outlet and a blogger from Maryland. The majority of the websites she originally cited made their amends with retractions and apologies, and apparently Melania found this satisfactory. The blogger and the media site were the only defendants, but why they are the only two is not immediately known. She is suing them for defamation of her name and reputation.

The two entities named in the lawsuit are the Daily Mail and a blogger from Maryland named Webster Tarpley, who operates Tarpley.net. The future first lady decided she would like to meet the judge and the opposing council in this lawsuit, which is another reason she opted to attend, her attorney reported. It was a surprise to many seeing the future first lady attend this court conference. Any one of the many lawyers affiliated with the Trump family could have easily done this alone.

It wasn’t as if the courtroom was around the corner from her home in Trump Towers, so the trip wasn’t a convenient one for the future first lady. Melania made the trek to Maryland in order to attend the court conference. It appears that when Melania sets her mind to something, she follows it through, which is evident by this latest action.

As the nation’s next first lady, Melania plans to take on projects of her own, but she’s already met with criticism over this. She’s gotten an awful amount of backlash after making a vow to tackle cyberbullying, which Melania plans as one of her first projects when she becomes the nation’s first lady.

Critics saw Melania’s pledge as nothing more than a woman living in a glass house and throwing stones, citing their perception of Donald Trump’s tweets containing a good deal of bullying. Trump supporters saw this as Trump not bullying, but basically giving back what he was getting.

He did say from the very beginning of his campaign that he won’t start these battles, but he sure would bite back. That’s what he did as far as his supporters are concerned and they don’t agree that he was the bully. They see it as he was giving the bullies a taste of their own medicine.

As the L.A. Times reports, “Melania Trump lamented cyberbullying and the Internet went crazy.” One Twitter user said, “If Melania Trump wants to combat cyber bullying on social media, she should start by changing the password on her husband’s Twitter account.”

While Melania might appear as the future first lady who likes to stay behind the scenes, she’s certainly not stagnant while doing so. She doesn’t seem to need a constant stream of approval or notoriety for what she embarks on. She could have easily called a press conference prior to showing up in court this week to state her case to the media.

Reporters would have come from far and wide to get a chance to put Melania on camera and tape what she had to say. In the case of Melania Trump, still waters just might run deep. As the new first lady of the nation, she might pleasantly surprise the masses on achieving that tag of excellence after all.
