President-Elect Donald Trump Addresses Campaign Details During ’60 Minutes’ Interview

President-elect Donald Trump sat down with 60 Minutes to conduct an interview.

The campaign between Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump was one for the record books. Both sides appeared to sling their fair share of mud and mortar toward the other, but Donald Trump has been elected to become the 45th president of the United States. Since the election, protests and demonstrations have broken out against the reality television star. Few people keep it a secret that Donald Trump isn’t on their “favorites” list, but Trump seems to have taken a turn. Could it be for the better? You can decide.

Perhaps the most noticeable aspect of the interview is that Trump doesn’t appear to be as hardened about his campaign policies as one would have guessed. According to Extra, the interview seemed to hold a different tone to Donald’s campaign promises. Trump weighed in on the campaign race, having this to say about the final stretch before voting had been all said and done.

“Well, I really felt we were doing well. I was on a string of about 21 straight days of speeches, sometimes many a day and the last two days I really — I really had a pretty wild time. I did six speeches and then I did seven.”

Television journalist Lesley Stahl, who conducted the interview, chimed in with the thought that many believed that Trump would lose. Clearly, that wasn’t the case. Trump went on to discuss his visit to the White House, where he and President Barack Obama sat down to talk politics.

“This was just going to be a quick little chat and it lasted close to an hour and a half. And it could have gone on for four hours. I mean it was — just — in fact, it was almost hard breaking it up because we had so many things to say. And he told me the good things and the bad things, there are things that are tough right now.”

While President-elect Donald Trump wouldn’t divulge the specifics of his conversation with the current president, he made it known that the man who ran the campaign would be different from the man who would be president, depending on the situation. We’re no strangers to Donald Trump speaking his mind, but his disposition could surprise the population.

“You know, I’ll conduct myself in a very good manner, but depends on what the situation is, sometimes you have to be rougher,” Trump began to Stahl. “When I look at — when I look at the world and you look at how various places are taking advantage of our country, and I say it, and I say it very proudly, it’s going to be America first. It’s not going to be what we’re doing — we, we’ve lost — we’re losing this country. We’re losing this country. That’s why I won the election. And by the way, won it easily, I mean I won easily. That was big, big.”

The largest takeaway from the interview with 60 Minutes is what Trump had to say about the border and immigration. According to TV Line, the dialogue with Trump appears to suggest a different standard from complete isolation with immigrants.

One of the biggest fears was that racism would come into play, and Donald would be the lighter to the gasoline. Stahl questioned the promises that had been made during the campaign, and a forthcoming Trump replied with what could be interpreted as an understanding hand.

“What we are going to do is get the people that are criminal and have criminal records, gang members, drug dealers, we have a lot of these people, probably 2 million, it could be even 3 million, we are getting them out of our country or we are going to incarcerate. But we’re getting them out of our country, they’re here illegally. After the border is secured and after everything gets normalized, we’re going to make a determination on the people that you’re talking about who are terrific people, they’re terrific people but we are gonna make a determination at that — But before we make that determination — Lesley, it’s very important, we want to secure our border.”

Could Trump have pulled the wool over the eyes of those who gave him their vote? Some would suggest so. Time will tell if the country will eventually accept the president-elect’s policies with understanding or aggression. Regardless, it’s far too soon to tell if success will be in Trump’s pocket.
