Justin Bieber Isn’t ‘Wooing’ Selena Gomez, But She May Still Be In Love With Him

The Sun tabloid has some explaining to do. The notorious U.K. newspaper is claiming Selena Gomez’s grandfather, Ricardo Gomez, recently gave an interview to its Fabulous magazine supplement.

However, some of so-called new “quotes” attributed to Gomez Sr. regarding Justin Bieber and Selena’s current lupus-related rehab timeout from her “Revival Tour” are taken directly from Ricardo’s interview with Radar Online in 2014. In some cases, words are moved around from their original order or others are added.

Before getting into the plagiarism, it’s worth noting the Sun’s (November 6) dated article insinuates that Ricardo thinks his granddaughter’s rehab stint is partly the Biebs’ fault.

It’s a storyline multiple gossip outlets have pushed for obvious clickbait reasons. It also syncs with mainstream media’s general anti-Bieber media narrative.

To recap: In mid-August, Selena hopped onto Bieber’s Instagram account without invitation and told her ex that the online abuse he and his then-gal pal Sofia Richie were receiving from fans wouldn’t have occurred if he hadn’t posted selfies of the pair.

Bieber then accused the “Same Old Love” songstress of using him for “attention.” From there, the war of words degenerated when photoshopped comments alleging cheating on both sides were posted by an unidentified user(s) falsely purporting to be Bieber and Gomez.

Selena seemed to reveal her motives for her out-of-the-blue comments immediately after the Instagram drama. The 24-year-old spent several hours “liking” fan-posted Instagram memes which shaded Justin. Some of these referred contemptuously to the heartthrob’s then romance with Sofia.

Jumping to the end of August. Before entering a Nashville, Tennessee, rehab program, Gomez announced she was canceling the remainder of her “Revival Tour” as a result of lupus-related mental health problems.

In a statement, Gomez shared, “I’ve discovered that anxiety, panic attacks and depression can be side effects of lupus, which can present their own challenges.”

Fast forward to the Sun’s alleged recent interview with Ricardo via Fabulous magazine. The first time we hear from him, it’s claimed the 61-year-old commented on the “Same Old Love” songstress’ first rehab stay.

“She was under a lot of pressure from work and was worrying about Justin. The doctor told her she needed to take time out. She works long hours every day, and although she loves her work, it got too much. I always tell Selena: ‘Be yourself and don’t let things get over your head.’ But it would be hard for anyone. She’s only human,” Gomez Sr. allegedly said.

The above quote isn’t found in Radar’s 2014 interview, but its authenticity is thrown into doubt because a second quote in the alleged new interview is a mix of phrases from the older one.

Referring to the Biebs, Ricardo allegedly implied Selena is conflicted in her feelings towards her ex, explaining, “She loves him but told us she doesn’t want to be with him because of his recent behaviour.”

There’s no elaborating of what Gomez Sr. meant by “behavior.”

He then supposedly added, “We’ve known Justin since he started in the industry and he was such a bright young man, but we worry for him. His family think Selena is a good influence on him.”

In Radar Onlne’s 2014 interview, Ricardo is quoted allegedly saying, “We worry… I think she [Selena] loves him. We [have known] him [Bieber] since he started and he was the real bright young man.”

Sound familiar? Radar also claimed the the grandfather said Justin’s inner circle saw Selena as “a good influence for him (sic).”

In short, the Sun’s current article appears to be a copy and paste of Radar’s 2014 quotes pieced back together and altered slightly.

The extra wording in the line “She [Gomez] loves him but told us she doesn’t want to be with him because of his recent behavior” comes across as a fabricated — and unnatural — add-on designed to make it seem as though Ricardo recently talked about Bieber in a negative way.

For all of these reasons, it is clearly unsafe to take any quote in the Sun’s allege interview with Ricardo at face value. When a media outlet shows it hasn’t met even basic standards of professionalism and accuracy, that is the only conclusion to take.

Notably, the Sun was recently called out by model Cara Delevingne for making up a story about why she won’t be modelling in this year’s Victoria’s Secret fashion show. The paper has also been rapped before for journalistic improprieties.

The Sun also recently misreported comments Bieber made about his ADHD disorder during the U.K. leg of his ongoing “Purpose World Tour.”

Apart from the non-credible quotes in the tabloid’s supposed new interview with Gomez Sr., the paper also goes to ludicrous lengths to paint the Biebs as a “cartoon villain.”

After noting Gomez’s lupus and the tragic murder of her friend The Voice U.S. contestant Christina Grimmie, as reasons for the starlet’s second and current rehab stay, the Sun wrote the following over-the-top statement.

“If dealing with such serious health issues [lupus] and a break-up wasn’t enough, Selena has been forced to watch her ex Justin be romantically linked to a succession of stars, including Kendall Jenner, Kourtney Kardashian, Miranda Kerr and Sofia Richie.”

Does it need saying that once a couple have split, either party is free to date other people? Furthermore, if one party makes it harder for themselves to move on by keeping tabs on an ex in real life, or on social media, surely that’s their responsibility — no one else’s?

The Sun also says sources claim Bieber and Gomez’s Instagram clash “made Selena realise a reunion was unlikely.”

Really? Because to any reasonable person watching the former couple’s online spat, it was abundantly clear that the ex-teen sweethearts were not friends who still talked.

If they were, the actress-singer would obviously have contacted the pop prince privately. In fact, if Selena had maturely thought through her decision to act beforehand, she would not have been on her ex’s Instagram in the first place.

The day after the Instagram fight, TMZ reported Bieber refused to pick up multiple calls from Selena when she tried to apologize. There is no evidence to suggest he’s changed his mind about having no contact with Gomez and certainly nothing to support recent rumors that he is “wooing” her.

As for the Sun’s latest “report,” Inquisitr readers can judge for themselves whether or not it has any merit. For yet another recently debunked false “Jelena” rumor click in the link below.
