Steven Avery Of ‘Making A Murderer’ Dumps Fiancee, Says She’s A Gold Digger

Steven Avery, convicted murderer, and the main subject of the hit Netflix series, Making A Murderer, thought he had found true love from behind bars in the form of Lynn Hartman, A former wife to a retired Las Vegas police official. The two had even recently become engaged, and Hartman has made the rounds telling her story of how she fell for the convicted murderer, who has sat behind bars for a decade after being found guilty of the murder of Theresa Halbach, a 26-year-old photographer.

Hartman spoke to People recently about how she found love with Avery, yet the convict has reportedly dumped Hartman for her opportunistic ways. The news about the split came in the form of a Facebook post by Avery’s friend Sandra Greenman. The Wrap relays the message she relayed on Avery’s behalf.

“I have a statement that I need passed around to groups. Steve called me two times tonight and wants everyone to know that Lynn and him are done. She has been in this relationship for money and publicity. His eyes are finally opened!!! Lynn received at least 5000.00 dollars from Dr Phil, and he thinks more. She got another 1000.00 for doing other shows. She also wanted to be on as many as possible. His words-she is a golddigger. He wants someone to contact Dr Phil before Mon. show annd (sic) let him know she was only in the relationship for money. I checked and doublechecked with him to make very sure he wanted this put on and he said very much so.”

In addition to Greenman, Avery’s niece, Carla Chase, also verified the story and shared her own account and about the conversation she had with her uncle on the subject of Hartman. Lynn has reportedly blocked her number from being contacted by Steven and the prison, and Chase says she is trying to play the victim but that she has also had Chase’s home number blocked for weeks.

Hartman has reportedly been all about the money she has gained from the publicity of her relationship with Avery. An admin on the Steven Avery Facebook page corroborates this.

“She started this media frenzy, and she’s gotten money from all these different outlets. But she has blocked his calls and she claims on ‘Dr. Phil’ that he’s not calling her.”

Last week, People magazine reported that Avery, currently in prison for the 2005 murder of photographer Teresa Halbach, is betrothed to Lynn Hartman, identified as a legal secretary — which might come in handy — from Las Vegas.

It’s been reported that the couple has been an item for eight months, but have only met once in person at the facility in Wisconsin where Avery has been incarcerated since 2005. Avery had a brief engagement to Greenman following his murder conviction in 2007, and the two still remain friends, even though the wedding never happened.

Dr. Phil had Hartman on his show where he interviewed Avery’s flame about their whirlwind and unconventional relationship. The show has been taped and is set to air on October 3 and October 4 on CBS. During the taping, Avery actually had called in to speak to Dr. Phil. At the time, he spoke highly of Hartman, in regard to their relationship.

“I haven’t been in love my whole life. It’s not the same as the others. Everything is all different with her. I want to wait [to marry] until I’m out and I don’t think that’ll be too long; right around the corner.”

Things between the couple have clearly taken a turn. However, there does sound like there is hope for Avery after the Wisconsin resident was incarcerated on a wrongful conviction for 18 years prior to being convicted of Theresa Halbach’s murder. His lawyer is certain the conviction will be overturned.
