There are few men in the world not in love with Kate Upton’s body. That being said, it is hard to believe that Upton could possibly have any body image issues, but this is exactly what Kate has revealed to Glamour magazine.

The voluptuous model is the Glamour Cover girl for October, so expect to see plenty of Kate Upton’s body in the issue. It is this body — the body that all men love — which was actually once the object of ridicule.

Believe it or not, Upton told Glamour that she felt fat and needed to diet, and yes, Kate was told by people that she needed to lose weight when she was first starting out as a model.

“At first I tried to diet to become their image, but eventually I realized that it wasn’t realistic—that this is just the shape of my body. So I had to block them out. I think that the people who are the loudest about wanting to change you are the people with the least amount of vision and creativity.”

The early detractors of Kate Upton’s body surely came before the recent “full bodied” craze began, as evidenced by models such as Ashley Graham and Candice Huffine.

Not surprisingly for fans of Kate’s, the 24-year-old blonde bombshell is herself a fan of Ashley Graham’s.

Fortunately for men everywhere, Upton did not pay attention to the body shamers out there. Kate new that she was desirable and had the self-confidence to move forward.

“The fact that people were having a conversation about whether I should conform to fashion or not gave me a great platform, because I wanted to show that you shouldn’t conform, you should be the best you, the healthiest you. You shouldn’t always try to change yourself, because then how are we going to tell anybody apart? It’s like L.A.—how do I know who’s who? You all look like sisters.”

This is a woman who made the covers of both the Sports Illustrated swimsuit issue and Vogue at the same time back in 2013. So the magazines that have been accused of promoting a false ideal body image for women did not hesitate to jump on the Kate Upton band wagon. Upton first showed off her curvaceous body in the 2011 Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue.

This is how Kate Upton wished everyone a happy Labor Day Weekend on Facebook:

Kate was not prepared for the body shaming when she first became famous because of what she experienced as a girl in Florida. Upton explained that, “Where I grew up, it was considered a great thing to have a curvy body to fill out a bathing suit.” Fortunately, Kate Upton certainly does fill out a bathing suit quite well.

And she has also learned to deal with the body shamers. Kate says that at first negative comments by critics and on social media were hurtful to her, but now Upton says, “the other day I was reading some negative comments, and I was thinking they were really funny. So I guess they don’t [hurt] anymore.”

Today, Kate Upton is engaged to marry the star pitcher for the Detroit Tigers, Justin Verlander. And while just a few years ago Kate might have been classified as “big,” few people would say that of her today.

So the debate rages as to whether or not American men’s idea of the perfect female body has changed or if the people behind magazines such as Vogue have finally come around to acknowledging that Kate Upton represents what men really want.

So how does Kate Upton keep her body in shape? The model tells Glamour that diet plays a big role. Kate avoids sugar and eats plenty of protein.

Upton was also surprised at how athletic her fiancé is. Kate said that she always thought that baseball players were pudgy, but apparently Justin Verlander is ripped as a result of playing a lot of tennis.

Some might see this a hypocritical since Upton herself has been called fat by some very myopic people

The model has also made the jump to the silver screen. Upton had a big role in the 2014 movie The Other Woman. And fans of her figure will get to see Kate’s body in two films due out before the end of this year, The Layover and Wild Man.

In the meantime, if you are a Kate Upton aficionado and a lover of Kate Upton’s body, you will just need to settle for all of her Instagram posts like the ones above.
