‘Game of Thrones’ Season 6 Episode 7: ‘The Broken Man’ Spoilers, Identity of ColdHands Finally Revealed? Jaime Meets An Unspecified Hero, The North Remembers, And More

‘Game of Thrones’ is one of the most-debated about shows on television. It’s like the internet wants to know what’s happening without the whole show being totally spoiled. Not to burst everyone’s bubble, but here are some of the more juicy things coming in this week’s episode, entitled “The Broken Man.”

Our focus has been pointed to the north for some time now, what with Winter coming, White Walkers popping up nearly everywhere, and the very sinister Night’s King making a guest appearance in Season 6. There’s also the mysterious ColdHands, a human? or possibly White Walker who shows up north of the wall as a hooded figure riding an elk. We’re not sure exactly how or if ColdHands will become a central part of the show, but knowing his identity might give the story a bit more depth (spoilers ahead).

Okay, now for the good part. The true identity of ColdHands is….Benjen Stark! The lost uncle of Bran Stark and brother of Eddard Stark disappeared during Season 2 while exploring beyond the Wall with the Night’s Watch, but now he’s returned, and Game of Thrones might be vastly different due to that fact.

With Eddard and Catelyn gone to the great Godswood in the sky, will Benjen have a chance to take the reigns as Lord Stark? The stage seems to have been set for a resurgence of the north for a while now, and Benjen could be just the person to make that happen. There are other important moments on the horizon when Episode 7 premieres this Sunday, as well.

Tech Insider predicted that Episode 7 Season 6, “The Broken Man”, could take us back to the RiverLands, where Jaime Lannister has been sent to lay siege to Riverrun and expel Brynden Tully AKA “The Blackfish”.

This has led some to speculate that we could see Lady Stoneheart (or resurrected-ice-zombie-Catelyn-Stark if you prefer) make an appearance in this episode. Could the former Lady Stark bring an army of White Walkers to wreak havoc on those who’ve wronged her? If so, Jaime Lannister would be a logical first target (insert dramatic music here).

Also, what’s up with the choice of episode title? The Game of Thrones Wiki guessed that the name refers to a speech Septon Meribald makes in the books.

“The title probably refers to Septon Meribald and his speech about “broken men” from the novels – conscripts in wars who desert and turn into bandits, wretched men living from one day to the next, and the opposite of how glorious the stories say war is going to be like.”

There are also a lot of “Broken Men” in Westeros and beyond, something the title might be referring to. Jaime Lannister has had his arm taken from him and loves a woman he can’t have, Jorah loves a woman that does not love him back (and is also an exile), and let’s just admit Bronn seems rough around the edges for whatever reason. The title could also be referencing Edmure Tully since he’s a captive of the Freys, who likely didn’t kidnap him to take good care of him.

The ambiguous description for Episode 7 also tells us that Arya “makes a plan.” Is the young Stark girl ready to enact revenge against her family’s oppressors? The description also states that “memories” awake in the north, possibly in reference to Benjen Stark’s return. But could that also be a hint that we might see the north rise to power once more? Stay tuned, friends…Winter is Coming.
