‘WWE Monday Night RAW’ Results: John Cena Returns And Is Attacked By The Club

John Cena returned from injury on the Memoral Day edition of WWE Monday Night RAW and was quickly attacked by The [Bullet] Club, who apparently never really broke up. Since AJ Styles already lost his opportunity to compete for the Money in the Bank briefcase at next month’s event, many are speculating that John Cena vs. AJ Styles will be booked for WWE Money in the Bank 2016.

While a feud between WWE World Heavyweight Champion Roman Reigns and the recently-returned-from-injury Seth Rollins would normally receive top billing, it seemed to pale this week in comparison to John Cena’s return and the update provided by Shane and Stephanie McMahon regarding the upcoming brand split. Starting in July, WWE SmackDown will become a live program on Tuesday nights, and each of the programs on the USA Network will have a unique roster of WWE talent.

The full results for this week’s WWE Monday Night RAW and the updated match-list for the WWE Money in the Bank 2016 card are below. This week’s episode of WWE RAW was taped at the Resch Center in Green Bay, Wisconsin.

WWE Monday Night RAW results

The following includes all of the matches and their results from WWE RAW on May 23.

  • The New Day defeated The Vaudevillains by disqualification when Karl Anderson and Luke Gallows attacked Xavier Woods and then attacked Kofi Kingston when he came to defend his partner.
  • The Usos defeated Breezango. The Golden Truth — Goldust and R-Truth — were on guest commentary as Jimmy and Jey Uso ended Fandango and Tyler Breeze’s winning streak. Post-match, The Golden Truth beat up Breezango after being verbally antagonized.
  • WWE United States Champion Rusev defeated Zack Ryder. After the match, he started to claim he was a better American than anyone in the WWE Universe in Green Bay. He was interrupted by Titus O’Neil, who called Rusev a “Bulgarian blowhard” before punching him in the face.

  • Enzo Amore & Big Cass defeated The Dudley Boyz after the recent NXT call-ups cut a promo, much to the delight of the WWE Universe.
  • Dana Brooke defeated Natalya and attacked her post-match with Charlotte. Becky Lynch made the save, chasing Dana and Charlotte out of the ring.
  • Baron Corbin defeated Dolph Ziggler by disqualification after The Showoff blatantly kicked The Lone Wolf in the crotch. Post-match, he grabbed the microphone and announced his own disqualification.
  • After Ambrose hit Dirty Deeds on Owens, Dean Ambrose, Sami Zayn and Cesaro defeated Alberto Del Rio, Chris Jericho, and Kevin Owens in the main event. Monday Night RAW went off the air before any post-match shenanigans took place.

Other updates and storyline progressions:

  • Shane McMahon and Stephanie McMahon started Monday Night RAW with an in-ring promo, reiterating the fact that SmackDown would be moving to Tuesday nights. The New Day interrupted to get clarification about the brand-split, and all Stephanie and Shane would say is that “everything is on the table.” The Vaudevillains interrupted an in-ring dance session to get the first match started.
  • Renee Young interviews Karl Anderson and Luke Gallows backstage, and they said that they were putting the WWE tag team division “on notice.”
  • Backstage, Apollo Crews spoke with Big Show about Sheamus singling him out because he’s part of the New Era.
  • Kane filmed a special trailer for the upcoming Warcraft movie.

  • WWE World Heavyweight Champion Roman Reigns came to the ring and cut a promo against Seth Rollins. The Architect came out and stopped short of entering the ring and returned to the top of the ramp and grabbed a mic. He continued to fake being indecisive and ultimately never said a word and never got in the ring. Rollins was clearly moved over than Reigns in Green Bay, even while playing the cowardly heel. The announce team continued to echo Shane’s comment that Reigns vs. Rollins for the title was a “WrestleMania main event” level match.
  • A big reveal for the #Hatch that was trending all day was that Bill Goldberg will be in WWE 2K17. Speculation went crazy regarding a potential Goldberg in-ring return to WWE, possibly at WWE WrestleMania 33.
  • A short Puerto Rico promo for The Shining Stars aired, followed by a video package replaying the drama between WWE Women’s Champion Charlotte and her father Ric Flair, complete with comments from other WWE Superstars, documentary-style.
  • A pre-recorded backstage segment shows Stephanie McMahon telling Charlotte that she was a “waste of talent.”
  • Backstage, Sami Zayn, Dean Ambrose, and Cesaro discussed their six-man tag team match and their Money in the Bank Ladder Match.

  • John Cena cuts an emotional promo to mark his return, and he’s interrupted by A.J. Styles as he begins to talk about the New Era. Shortly after extending a hand to Cena out of respect, Anderson and Gallows interrupted. It looked like Styles and Cena would face off against Gallows and Anders, but Styles turned on Cena, reuniting The [Bullet] Club at the expense of John Cena.
  • Dolph Ziggler was interviewed backstage by Jojo, where he represented the “old era” by calling attention to Dean Malenko and Chris Jericho when talking about beating Baron Corbin in a “technical wrestling match” tonight.
  • Backstage, Maryse introduces a video of The Miz who is apparently on the set of Marine 5.

  • Kevin Owens, Alberto Del Rio, and Chris Jericho discuss their upcoming match and the Ladder Match at Money in the Bank.
  • No indication was given as to who will get a chance to compete for the seventh spot in the Money in the Bank Ladder Match.
