WWE Rumors: The Shield To Explode In Triple Threat Match At ‘SummerSlam’

Two years ago, Seth Rollins turned on his “brothers” in The Shield and made the major heel turn to join Triple H and The Authority. Since that time, many have been wondering just when it was going to be time for Rollins to take on Dean Ambrose and Roman Reigns in a match to determine the top dog. Well, rumor now has it that The Shield is going to explode in a major triple threat match at this year’s SummerSlam.

It’s been rumored to happen for a very long time, and WWE is now doing everything possible to set it up.

Time and time again, WWE has almost given fans the thing they’ve long asked for and that is a true triple threat match between the former members of The Shield. Dean Ambrose feuded with Seth Rollins over the WWE Title almost all of last summer. After that, Rollins’ defended his title against Roman Reigns before a serious injury took him out.

Fans waited for Dean Ambrose or Roman Reigns to turn on each other last fall or earlier this year, but it never happened. Well, now it’s time.

Seth Rollins returned to WWE just one week ago, and he already has a WWE World Heavyweight Title match against Roman Reigns at Money in the Bank. According to Cageside Seats, that feud is expected to continue through the next couple of months and into SummerSlam.

At that same Money in the Bank pay-per-view, Dean Ambrose is involved in a seven-man ladder match for the most coveted briefcase in all of professional wrestling. That briefcase is going to hold a contract that will entitle the holder to a WWE Title match at any given moment they see fit.

Rumor has it that Kevin Owens is going to win the briefcase in the ladder match, but that is not yet confirmed.

WWE is setting up the perfect scenario for SummerSlam where Seth Rollins and Roman Reigns are ready to face off in the main event. At that moment, Dean Ambrose’s music hits and he comes down to the ring with his briefcase, hands it over to the referee, and turns the WWE Title match into a triple threat between The Shield.

The build-up could not be better for it, and the plan has already been put into place.

A thread on Reddit states that WWE is indeed building up to this match and that it very well could happen at SummerSlam. The promotion has the whole summer to build up this program, but it could come as more of a last-minute surprise.

The WWE guru and insider known as “falcon arrow” in the Reddit world has already said that the promotion had plans to have the match at WrestleMania 32 this year. With Seth Rollins still out due to injury, it just wasn’t possible so that sent Dean Ambrose and Roman Reigns in other directions.

Some other ideas are being passed around on Reddit to have the triple threat between The Shield happen next year at WrestleMania 33 in Orlando. Maybe WWE would want to have more of a build-up to let fans actually know that this match is going to take place and build up the buy-rate for WWE Network a lot more.

No matter when it happens, this match is going to be greatly received and garner a huge reaction.

Fans are not going to care who is a heel and who is a face. They aren’t going to mind that Roman Reigns is actually in the ring. The fans are going to absolutely lose their mind because the very popular stable will finally be able to seek justice against one another.

For the first time since their split back in the early part of June, 2014, the Hounds of Justice will take on one another with no one else around.

Rollins, Reigns, and Ambrose have all had a lot of success since The Shield ended up going their own separate ways. Two of them have won the WWE World Heavyweight Title. Another is one of the most popular superstars in the entire company. That’s a ton of star power in one match, and it needs to happen.

Fans absolutely loved The Shield and loved what they stood for, but there are still ways for WWE to capitalize on the popularity of the stable. Having a triple threat match at SummerSlam is exactly where WWE needs to go with the obvious build-up they’ve now brought forth. Putting the WWE Title on the line and up for grabs between Roman Reigns, Dean Ambrose, and Seth Rollins is the ultimate battle that fans have been wanted for a long time.
