Kirk Cameron Steps In To Defend Todd Akin, Says He ‘Respects Sanctity Of Life’

Actor Kirk Cameron has not been afraid in recent months to take a stand in expressing unpopular beliefs, and, in the midst of the controversy surrounding embattled House Rep. Todd Akin, Cameron has stepped up to defend the beleaguered congressman in the wake of accusations the politician engaged in what many deem “rape apology” during a recent interview.

To recap, Akin opined that pregnancy is not a frequent consequence of “legitimate rape” and that the female body does not allow for conception during rape due to rape’s non-consensual nature. (Of course, there is no scientific evidence to back up this claim, and actual scientists say rape is more likely to result in unintended pregnancy due to the fact women are not prepared for rape and thusly may not be using birth control.)

Cameron says that, while many are angered by Akin’s decision to qualify rape, he believes the congressman’s heart is in the right place. Speaking to Hoda Kotb and Kathie Lee Gifford, Cameron says:

“I’m not his political strategist, thank God… Clearly, this is a man who is advocating the sanctity of life through and through. He said he misspoke and he apologized for it. I like to evaluate people based on their entire life, their entire career, and [what] they stand for. He loves his wife, he’s got six children. I believe he’s a good man. He’s now in a very, very difficult spot.”

Yes, Kirk Cameron! One might even say it is like Akin has been violated, and no one is taking him seriously! Who can possibly comprehend such a nightmare scenario?

  1. I think Mr Akin's heart was in the right place; abortion has become too common place in this country, and we lost the respect for (unborn) human life… pitiful:{
