Sarah Silverman’s New Video About Why She Feels The Bern

Sarah Silverman has made no secret about her political preferences. Her entire Twitter following of over 8.22 million knows all about it.

Silverman today posted a video about why she is voting for Bernie Sanders.

“Friends! I made this vid about why I’m voting for Bernie! Hope you eat it up!”

Entitled, “Bernie Sanders is the One For Me,” it shows Silverman casually dressed, looking into the camera, smiling. You feel as if you are sitting right there with her in her living room, talking smack about Donald Trump.

“Good Lord, don’t worry! Under President Sanders, you can still become a super rich a**hole. It’s just that your fellow hardworking citizens don’t have to feed their children cat food in order for you to do it!”

Sanders won a clean sweep in the primaries over Easter weekend, taking Alaska, Hawaii, and Washington State. He will turn his attention next to Wisconsin in early April. Following that, he will face New York, where he has invited Clinton to participate in a debate. She is currently stalling on a decision.

The Daily Beast recalls some incidents where Sarah Silverman has gone all out to back a candidate: Or discourage one.

In 2008, she promoted “The Great Schelp,” a movement to get young Jewish Americans to haul down to Florida and get their grandparents to vote for Barack Obama.

In 2012, Silverman approached Zionist billionaire, casino mogul Sheldon Adelson with an indecent proposal, attempting to influence his $100 million donation to Mitt Romney’s Super PAC.

A native of New Hampshire, Sarah said that as a feminist, she was all about Hillary until Bernie came along with his unconventional hand-to-mouth fundraising methods. She said until now, she had always considered donations from big money interests a “necessary evil.”

“I’m not against Hillary. I’ve just met someone I have more in common with.”

Bernie’s “everyman” quality is a big part of his appeal, according to Silverman.

“He’s a Democrat. He just believes that people who don’t have the same advantages as you and me should be given the same advantages as you and me.”

Silverman appeared on Real Time With Bill Maher earlier this month and addressed the “Bernie as Unelectable” buzz.

“I don’t know who’s perpetuating this unelectable thing. He’s really popular with both sides, everyone likes him, and he’s not for sale, not playing the game and says what he means. He’s been on the right side of history at every turn—not along with history when it becomes popular, but before it’s popular.”

An endorsement from Silverman packs a political wallop, according to Bustle. It states that Silverman’s more than 8 million Twitter followers have been watching her promote Sanders for months.

“Back in June of 2015, when most thought that Sanders would be little more than a speed bump on Clinton’s road to the Democratic nomination, Silverman was already throwing her social media weight behind the Vermont senator.”

Clinton should be concerned about Silverman, Bustle said, not due to her fame, but due to the fact that she is a former supporter of Hillary. Sarah doesn’t hesitate to share the fact that she changed allegiances, and why? The biggest reason being campaign funding.

Silverman has staked her territory in the league of women’s reproductive rights and gay rights, which is something that Hillary has wavered on. Clinton began to support same-sex marriage only after it slid into the realm of “publicly acceptable.”

As the article in Bustle states, though, “Celebrity endorsements should be treated with not just a grain of salt but a whole damn shaker.”

It’s difficult to know how much influence celebrities actually have, but it seems significant when a woman breaks away from a female candidate.

Sarah’s new video was released today.
