Matrix director Larry Wachowski is now a ‘she’, after undergoing a sex-change operation.
For some time now, the film director has been answering to ‘Lana Wachowksi’, and says she has been “transitioning” from male to female for a number of years. At a Los Angeles movie promo last week, Wachowski showed up in a gray dress and fuchsia dreadlocks, announcing in a German accent: “Hi, I’m Lana.”
It isn’t known whether the Matrix director’s public switching of genders is complete yet, but this was far from Wachowski’s first big public appearance as Lana: she was appearing in public as early as 2004, at events such as the San Diego Comic-Con.
In her most recent showing, Lana popped up in a trailer for her new film, Cloud Atlas. The credits for the sci-fi film, based on a novel by British writer David Mitchell, feature the name ‘Lana Wachowski.’ Yet again, this isn’t the first time Lana has been credited as such: in the 2012 documentary Side by Side, she is interviewed and credited as Lana Wachowski.
Tom Hanks and Halle Berry star in Cloud Atlas, and in a fitting twist, the pair swap names and genders in the production.
Matrix director Larry Wachowski filed for divorce in 2002, after rumors about his sex life culminated in the director being photographed in a Los Angeles S&M club, The Dungeon.
After separating from his wife, the former carpenter snapped up a $2.7 million San Francisco mansion, adding the name ‘Laurencia Wachowski’ to the title deeds of the property.

I love the Matrix Series. I've just returned from Vages. This is becoming alarming trend. This outward transformation by men. I won't judge it because this lifestyle choice has been judge already by the Word of God(Bible). I will say that no matter how much you change your outside appearance. Your inside will never change. This man will never be able to have children as a natural woman can. He's not wired inside for it. The whole female reproductive system thing and DNA thing says he is a male. Not a female(Fetus carring male), or a Woman(Man with a womb). I hope someone has enough courage and compassion for this man to tell him the truth. I pray he comes to know the Lord as his savior. Then acceptance of who he really is and what gender God created him to be. It was evident at his birth.

I did care enough to look it up and found to be much lower than 10%. Much, much lower. Even from the "Intersex Society of North America," which does not sound like an impartial source. You should hit them up before stating assertion as fact. Just saying.

At most I would only humor him so as to not provoke him. But I would consider him to be mentally ill. I consider Wachowski to be mentally ill. Encouraging people in their delusions is not helping them but enables and perpetuates the delusions.
But there is a biological basis for transexuality, the Stria terminalis, a part of the brain that effects sex and anxiety responses. The Stria terminalis of a MtF transexual more closely resembles the Stria terminalis of women, and the inverse is true with FtM transexuals. The same cannot be said of people "who think they are Napoleon." Transexuality should be considered a physical birth defect as opposed to mental illness.

That may or may not be the case in this particular instance. Wachowski could just as easily be mentally ill and there be no biological basis for his change in identification. I will concede that they may be a small amount of grey area but those instances are very rare. But Wachowski isn't claiming to possess a birth defect but is claiming to be a woman. At least the best I can tell from this article.

@James Roy, Never once did I claim to 'know it all' or even imply as much. Have the integrity to not mis-characterize what I've said. I freely admit that I don't know much about mental health but I do know that there are mental illnesses that are successfully treated with drugs. They could not be treated with drugs successfully if there was not a biological bases for the illness.
Perry Fawcett I wouldn't venture a guess how individuals with gender confusion should be treated. I'm not an MD. I was simply pointing out that some metal illnesses have a biological origin but remain an illness. It may very well be the case that there isn't a means to treat some of those individuals and that the best method for some to live a somewhat normal life is re-assignment surgery. But the re-assignment surgery does not in fact change their sex or heal their mental illness it makes it easier for the person suffering gender confusion to cope with their illness.

Any person with a minimum amount of skill and the proper equipment can determine whether tissue samples containing intact chromosomes come from a man or a woman. Gender identity in persons not confused about their gender identify themselves in accordance with their sex. I do not dispute that gender identity is determined within the brain but that identity can exist separately and in opposition from sex (as determined by chromosomes) in a healthy individual.

So there you have it, the leading organization in the field of mental illnesses have determined that transexuality is not a mental illness.

And yes, embryos mainly have an XX or XY chromosome set. But there are also intersexed configurations like XXY, XYY, and many more. An XY chromosome set usually results in a PHYSICAL male development of the fetus from around the 6th to the 8th week of pregnancy, while an XX set will result in a PHYSICAL female development. However, around the same time, the brain of an XY fetus in most cases experiences a "wash" with testosterone, which triggers male programming of the brain. It is estimated that in one of five hundred pregnancies, this process doesn't happen at all or finishes incomplete. With other words, the body develops male while the brain remains female, as it did it the case of Lana Wachowski. Chaz Bono (child of singer and actress Cher) was born with a female body, but his brain was programmed by testosterone. That's why Chastity felt like a boy when (s)he grew up. Again, gender is what your brain tells you to identify with, regardless of how your body developed. It certainly isn't a choice or a mental illness when people come to the conclusion that they should have been born as the opposite sex. Be glad that your brain was "programmed" male, and therefore didn't remain female. Otherwise, you very likely would experience the same gender/sex incongruity as transsexuals do.
