Matrix Director Larry Wachowski Now A ‘She’

Matrix Director Larry Wachowski Now A 'She'

Matrix director Larry Wachowski is now a ‘she’, after undergoing a sex-change operation.

For some time now, the film director has been answering to ‘Lana Wachowksi’, and says she has been “transitioning” from male to female for a number of years. At a Los Angeles movie promo last week, Wachowski showed up in a gray dress and fuchsia dreadlocks, announcing in a German accent: “Hi, I’m Lana.”

It isn’t known whether the Matrix director’s public switching of genders is complete yet, but this was far from Wachowski’s first big public appearance as Lana: she was appearing in public as early as 2004, at events such as the San Diego Comic-Con.

In her most recent showing, Lana popped up in a trailer for her new film, Cloud Atlas. The credits for the sci-fi film, based on a novel by British writer David Mitchell, feature the name ‘Lana Wachowski.’ Yet again, this isn’t the first time Lana has been credited as such: in the 2012 documentary Side by Side, she is interviewed and credited as Lana Wachowski.

Tom Hanks and Halle Berry star in Cloud Atlas, and in a fitting twist, the pair swap names and genders in the production.

Matrix director Larry Wachowski filed for divorce in 2002, after rumors about his sex life culminated in the director being photographed in a Los Angeles S&M club, The Dungeon.

After separating from his wife, the former carpenter snapped up a $2.7 million San Francisco mansion, adding the name ‘Laurencia Wachowski’ to the title deeds of the property.

Wow. I get why Rob Lowe might decide that he could pull off changing to a woman, but this guy really didn't think this through. He was a better looking woman when he was a man.

First Walter Carlos becomes Wendy , Then Chastity Bono is now Chaz. Now one of the directors of The Matrix trilogy is now a woman. What a shocking discovery. But that's life.

I love the Matrix Series. I've just returned from Vages. This is becoming alarming trend. This outward transformation by men. I won't judge it because this lifestyle choice has been judge already by the Word of God(Bible). I will say that no matter how much you change your outside appearance. Your inside will never change. This man will never be able to have children as a natural woman can. He's not wired inside for it. The whole female reproductive system thing and DNA thing says he is a male. Not a female(Fetus carring male), or a Woman(Man with a womb). I hope someone has enough courage and compassion for this man to tell him the truth. I pray he comes to know the Lord as his savior. Then acceptance of who he really is and what gender God created him to be. It was evident at his birth.

congrats Lana, I think that it is a very good thing, I am a nobocy by if you ever like to talk I hope you will call me.

  9. Sam Rose

She would probably say the suitable punishment was continuing to live as a man, when that is not what she identified as. Not to mention being female is not a punishment.

  10. Harold Ray Crews

Unless he managed to change his Y chromosome into an X chromosome then no he's still a man though a mutilated one.

  11. Darren Bennion

No matter what you do or what you chop off…you are still a dude.

  12. Cynd Jimenes

that is soo true. Like that female couple, the woman that changed to male…what did she go and do!? Get pregnant!! WOW! So much bull with all this, I think! No matter how much you desire to change…you will never stop being what you were BORN TO! LIKE A SNAIL…YOU JUST CHANGE TO A DIFFERENT SHELL. BUT YOUR ALWAYS A SNAIL. LOL

This is like telling a person with a fake leg that no matter how much they wish it was real, it's not. In other words, there's no reason for anyone to say this except to be bigoted and hatefilled.

  15. Jennifer Dunn

Ooooh that's so adorable, you believe myths. I hope someone has the compassion and courage to tell you that your beliefs are backward, hate filled and arcaic

  16. Jennifer Dunn

Except for Speed Racer. I think I became dumber for having seen it.

  17. Jennifer Dunn

It may be 15 percent, I don't know, it's been a long time since I've read anything. Really my gender isn't something I worry about.

  18. Eric Garcia

That's a bold claim without support. I doubt that 10% of the population is intersexed enough to require some sort of surgery to commit their body to a sex. Can you provide support?

  19. Jennifer Dunn

Yeah if I cared enough about that. It's out there but honestly, I'm too lazy to prove something. It's kind of a non issue, I was just curious what your take was about the intersexed. That and I don't really think it's that bold of a claim really.

  20. Eric Garcia

I did care enough to look it up and found to be much lower than 10%. Much, much lower. Even from the "Intersex Society of North America," which does not sound like an impartial source. You should hit them up before stating assertion as fact. Just saying.

  21. Harold Ray Crews

There's no reason to question another's motives, particularly a strangers, unless you don't have an actual counter argument. Your analogy is false. He isn't wishing to be a woman. He claims to be a woman.

  22. Cynd Jimenes

To close it…does not matter what you become of yourself. As long as you are a good person from the inside and those that you believe have a say so accept you…then F the rest! Expressing what you think or believe does not mean you are a bigot or hateful! It's givin your opinion just like the rest of them.

  23. Perry Fawcett

So she has a Y chromosome. So what? I'd treat her no differantly than any other woman. Are you going to analaze the chromosones of everyone you meet so you know how to react? She is happier as a woman and isn't hurting anyone so why should chromosomes even matter?

  24. Harold Ray Crews

Because chromosomes are biology and biology is reality. If someone sincerely believes himself to be Napoleon I'm not going to consider him to be so. At most I would only humor him so as to not provoke him. But I would consider him to be mentally ill. I consider Wachowski to be mentally ill. Encouraging people in their delusions is not helping them but enables and perpetuates the delusions.

  25. Perry Fawcett

But there is a biological basis for transexuality, the Stria terminalis, a part of the brain that effects sex and anxiety responses. The Stria terminalis of a MtF transexual more closely resembles the Stria terminalis of women, and the inverse is true with FtM transexuals. The same cannot be said of people "who think they are Napoleon." Transexuality should be considered a physical birth defect as opposed to mental illness.

  26. Cynd Jimenes

IS THAT WHY SOME ARE BORN AS HERMAPHERDITES? INTERESTING SUBJECT TO LOOK INTO…

  27. Harold Ray Crews

That may or may not be the case in this particular instance. Wachowski could just as easily be mentally ill and there be no biological basis for his change in identification. I will concede that they may be a small amount of grey area but those instances are very rare. But Wachowski isn't claiming to possess a birth defect but is claiming to be a woman. At least the best I can tell from this article.

  28. Harold Ray Crews

Michael Adair Don't be a dipshit. You don't know the first thing about me except my opinion on one matter. Why would I be jealous of the mentally ill?

  29. Harold Ray Crews

Additionally there are any number of mental illnesses that have a biological bases but that does not make them not be an illness.

  30. Perry Fawcett

So what solution would you propose? Putting someone into a drugged up stupor? Giving them a lobotomy? Having them bare with it and live miserably?

  31. James Roy

I have to question Cynd Jimenes on why she wears makeup. Is it that she's too ugly to show her face without paint? To quote her, "No matter how much you desire to change… you will never stop being what you were BORN TO!"

So lay off the judgements when you're not pure yourself.

  32. James Roy

Harold… My guess is you don't have a PhD in clinical psychology, but you presume to know all. The most intelligent people realize that they don't have all the answers. Neither do you.

  33. Harold Ray Crews

@James Roy, Never once did I claim to 'know it all' or even imply as much. Have the integrity to not mis-characterize what I've said. I freely admit that I don't know much about mental health but I do know that there are mental illnesses that are successfully treated with drugs. They could not be treated with drugs successfully if there was not a biological bases for the illness.

  34. Harold Ray Crews

Perry Fawcett I wouldn't venture a guess how individuals with gender confusion should be treated. I'm not an MD. I was simply pointing out that some metal illnesses have a biological origin but remain an illness. It may very well be the case that there isn't a means to treat some of those individuals and that the best method for some to live a somewhat normal life is re-assignment surgery. But the re-assignment surgery does not in fact change their sex or heal their mental illness it makes it easier for the person suffering gender confusion to cope with their illness.

  35. Michaela Eisenhart

Gender identity is located in the brain, not in the chromosome set.

  36. Michaela Eisenhart

Gender identity is located in the brain, not in the chromosome set.

  37. Harold Ray Crews

Michaela Eisenhart well SEX is found in the chromosomes. Any person with a minimum amount of skill and the proper equipment can determine whether tissue samples containing intact chromosomes come from a man or a woman. Gender identity in persons not confused about their gender identify themselves in accordance with their sex. Gender identity in individuals confused about their gender identity identify themselves in opposition with their sex. I do not dispute that gender identity is determined within the brain but that identity can exist separately and in opposition from sex (as determined by chromosomes) in a healthy individual.

  38. Lester Cardall Magee

Ms. Jennifer I don't believe in myths, or heresies. I'm after truth. Jesus is the way, the truth, and the life(John14:7). If seeking the truth is backwards then I'm okay with it. How about you pick up a bible and just start reading with an open heart. Hate is when you see people destroying their life, or deeply scaring themselves and you say and do nothing. The world says do whatever comes to mind and we should tolerate it.

  39. Perry Fawcett

As for it being a mental illness, last June the American Psychiatric Association removed transexuality from the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM-5). So there you have it, the leading organization in the field of mental illnesses have determined that transexuality is not a mental illness.

  40. Harold Ray Crews

Well considering that it was considered a mental illness before by the same organization then it is obviously capable of being wrong. It is not infallible and makes it no claim to being such. Additionally it is capable of political manipulation so I'm not inclined to accept the opinion of the APA. Appeals to authority are fallacious. We simply aren't going to agree. I see no point in wasting additional time on this.

  41. Perry Fawcett

While they could be wrong, I am more inclined to believe the hundreds of doctors who agree on the matter than the self proclaimed non-MD.

  42. Perry Fawcett

While they could be wrong, I am more inclined to believe the hundreds of medical profesionals who agree on the matter than the self proclaimed non-MD. And "political manipulation," you're just bringing that up because you can't counter my argument. You also had been making logical fallacies long before I did, with that Napoleon false analogy.

  43. Harold Ray Crews

Well you do not accept their opinion that took place prior to the recent change. Assuming you didn't change your position when the APA changed their position then you're appeal to authority is merely self serving. I've countered your arguments as well as you've countered mine. This is pointless. Believe whatever you want and I'll do the same.

  44. Michaela Eisenhart

Harold, sex is what's between your legs, and gender is what's between your ears. It is actually that easy! Now, we all start out as females ("default" version) in the womb of our mothers. And yes, embryos mainly have an XX or XY chromosome set. But there are also intersexed configurations like XXY, XYY, and many more. An XY chromosome set usually results in a PHYSICAL male development of the fetus from around the 6th to the 8th week of pregnancy, while an XX set will result in a PHYSICAL female development. However, around the same time, the brain of an XY fetus in most cases experiences a "wash" with testosterone, which triggers male programming of the brain. It is estimated that in one of five hundred pregnancies, this process doesn't happen at all or finishes incomplete. With other words, the body develops male while the brain remains female, as it did it the case of Lana Wachowski. Chaz Bono (child of singer and actress Cher) was born with a female body, but his brain was programmed by testosterone. That's why Chastity felt like a boy when (s)he grew up. Again, gender is what your brain tells you to identify with, regardless of how your body developed. It certainly isn't a choice or a mental illness when people come to the conclusion that they should have been born as the opposite sex. Be glad that your brain was "programmed" male, and therefore didn't remain female. Otherwise, you very likely would experience the same gender/sex incongruity as transsexuals do.

Those of you who replied to this comment one of you says in earlier comments that he will never be a woman or something like that is that not being bigott as well.

  50. Jonathan Alexander

I'm sorry but although i agree with you on the bible saying this about this but really just becuase a woman has man as part of their dame dos not mean as you say and if it does prove it.
