Taraji P. Henson Makes Awkward Coldplay Mix-Up At Super Bowl 50

Taraji P. Henson drank a little too much Kool-Aid during Coldplay’s Super Bowl 50 halftime performance.

According to Us Weekly, Henson happily attended the big Super Bowl 50 game on February 7 but wasn’t exactly excited to see the Chris Martin-fronted band take to the stage as the Super Bowl halftime headliners. In fact, Taraji didn’t even seem to know that Coldplay would be there at all.

The site reported that Taraji took to the social media site during the much-anticipated halftime show, which also featured performances from Beyoncé and Bruno Mars, to post a clip of Coldplay’s stellar show live from Levi’s Stadium, Santa Clara, California. However, it turns out Taraji didn’t actually know who she was watching.

“YAAAAAAASSSSSS!!!! #maroon5 is life to me!!! #superbowl50 #HappyCamper I am,” Taraji allegedly captioned the short video, which appeared to reveal that Henson confused Coldplay for Adam Levine’s multi-platinum band, Maroon 5.

After noticing her mistake and pulling the video from her page, Taraji then wrote on Twitter, “Oooooooopppps. Lmao! #Superbowl50 [sic].”

Taraji later opened up about her Coldplay snafu after the Denver Broncos won the big Super Bowl game on February 7, joking to Entertainment Tonight post-game that she had a little too much to drink while watching Chris Martin’s band perform some of their biggest hits.

“Alright, so, I don’t know if you know how it goes down in the suites… They put a lot of drinks in there – Kool-Aid, lemonade, iced tea,” Henson said of her pretty embarrassing Super Bowl mix-up. “I mixed it all and I sat there and I’m sitting with people who drank the Kool-Aid as well.”

“So, you know, you’re doing a tweet and I’m talking and everybody’s talking,” Henson continued, “and I’m all Maroon 5 and I put it down and I was like ‘that isn’t Maroon 5, right?'”

Taraji then revealed that her fellow suitemates also seemed to think that Coldplay was Maroon 5, so she decided to send out the now infamous tweet.

Taraji P. Henson then admitted to Entertainment Tonight that she then received a flood of messages telling her to pull her awkward Coldplay mix-up video from her social media pages.

“I think they’re made because I didn’t give homage to Beyoncé,” Henson admitted, “I was like ‘the Beyoncé post is coming! Then I realized it was Coldplay…”

“I’m human, I made a mistake. It happens! C’mon… I drank the Kool-Aid!” Taraji concluded of her Super Bowl mishap.

But despite not knowing her Coldplays from her Maroon 5s, it seems like Taraji P. Henson didn’t let her misinformed tweet ruin her good time. The Empire actress continued to post fun photos on her Instagram account from the big game, including an adorable shot of herself with Alicia Keys and Swizz Beatz’s son, Egypt.

“FINALLY I met this lil special angel [sic],” Taraji wrote alongside a photo of herself planting a kiss on the youngster’s cheek. “He was waiting to meet me just as much a I was waiting to meet him. Look at how happy we both look!”

Taraji then tagged Egypt’s parents in the sweet photo, telling Alicia Keys, who stars alongside Henson on Empire, and Swizz Beatz that their son “has my heart for life!!!”

Henson also took to social media to post another snap of herself enjoying some quality time at the Super Bowl 50, where she met up with a few more superstars. Taraji also posted a snap of herself enjoying the Super Bowl atmosphere with fellow actresses January Jones and Amy Adams, who was proudly showing off her Denver Broncos baseball cap.
