Matt Lauer Behind Ann Curry’s Exit
Some sources have said that Ann Curry’s lack of skills during the cooking segments lead to her firing from the Today show, while others have pointed to the severe drop in the ratings.
However, after Ann Curry’s snub to co-host Matt Lauer during her on-air goodbye, sources have said that it was the lack of chemistry between the two hosts that lead to Curry’s Today show demise after 15 years reporting for the show. In fact, multiple sources have told US Weekly that it was Lauer’s hand who pushed her firing from the show, which made sense when looking back at Curry’s grimace as Lauer hugged her during her exit speech.
“Matt Lauer is 100 percent behind Ann leaving,” a source told Us Weekly. In the days that led up to her goodbye that would see her leaving the show she very much loved, Curry, 55, and Lauer, 54, “were really icy to each other, and she refused to speak to him all week.” Pointing out her goodbye speech as evidence, the source continues saying, “The body language was extremely tense.” On Curry’s final day on the Today show, a second source said it “was like a funeral in a way.”
Of course Ann Curry won’t be gone forever from the NBC family. Curry was signed a new seven-year contract that would see Curry reporting on passion projects all over the world, traveling to cover the best international stories with a crew of her choosing. During an interview with USA Today Curry denied reports that the lack of chemistry between the two hosts were the reason for a ratings decline, saying, “I just finished my freshman year as co-host. In every single co-host’s first year, there have been kinks to be worked out, and perhaps I deserve as much blame for that as anyone.”
Ann Curry’s successor is White House Correspondent Savannah Guthrie who was put in the hot seat the day after Curry’s departure.

Ann Curry – I wish you well. We have decided not to watch the TODAY show and now watch GMA instead. NBC made a big mistake with this choice. Best to you Ann!

Will not be watching Today show, because of the way they treated Ann.I thought she did a great job.Matt is the only one I dislike on that show.I believe the rates will be going lower because of this.I stopped watching the Talk for the way they did Leah and Holly.God Bless Ann, Leah, and Holly.God has something better planned for you.

Ann never seemed to quite fit in she always looked awkward. However I don't like Matt either so maybe its time to clean house and start with a new team.

In truth, I've never been a fan of Ann Curry; however, the professionalism she has maintained through this difficult period is to be admired. Hate to say it, but the morning show ratings have more to do with increased viewership at GMA (with their new staff) than with anyone or anything at Today.

I don't watch the Today Show because I'm not particularly fond of Matt. Has anyone ever considered that perhaps it's not the women who keep leaving that don't fit? Maybe it's him. Maybe I'm just taking it personal because I've gotten the heave ho on two separate occasions because someone didn't think I fit the "culture" of the workplace.

I haven't watched the Today show for several years now. the reason is I just don't like Matt. I can't put my finger on the reason, it's just that he rubs me the wrong way.

Have watched the Today Show for the past 20 plus years and I am completely disgusted with all of this. Matt Lauer is the one of the rudest reporters out there for interviewing others. Always thought he was a little Hypercritical pushing others for personal details when he couldn't get personal even if his life depended upon it. I will also be switching to GMA. Maybe Katie Couric with make some more guest co-host appearances.

Of course Matt was one of the instigaters of her leaving, Guthrie also had something to do with it, there was tension between them when Savannah first came on the show, Matt wanted Ann gone, to have a younger co-host.

I feel so bad for Ann Curry. I'm watching GMC when I need to watch the morning show. The show is a lot more interesting than TODAY now. The politic behind and scam treatment from NBC admin is terrible. I'm disappointed @ Matt Lauer's behavior, too.

I have long wondered when NBC would get the message. Beginning with Katie Couric's departure from the Today show, NBC has always got rid of the wrong person.
