‘Santas In The Barn’ Searches For The Kringle King In This Hilarious truTV Competition

This tongue-in-cheek challenge pits 10 male and female Santa hopefuls against each other as they fight it out in festive style over the course of eight episodes. Besides bragging rights, the winner will win a huge Christmas bonus of $100,000, and will also receive the honored title of America’s Best Santa. In addition to the prize money received, the Santa that wins will be able to make a donation to whatever charity they choose. Turner shared that Jon Gabrus (Guy Code, The Substitute) will host the competition.

Most of the Santas have been playing the jolly old elf for several years, and agree that it’s all about the giving. The contestants come from all around the U.S. and are from all walks of life. No matter their age or where they’re from, they all believe they have what it takes to become the ultimate Santa. The Santas will live together in an amazing and specially decorated Christmas-themed barn, where their stockings are hung by the chimney with care. This is where they will compete in several over-the-top challenges designed to find the contestant who best exemplifies the “Santa Way” of life. How they perform the various challenges is extremely important, because losers may face being voted out of the barn by the others, who use icing to write their vote onto gingerbread cookies. There will be a lot of shenanigans, and quite a bit of strategic planning, among the Santas as they strive to come out on top.

Both the team and individual challenges are designed to highlight all the skills every Santa should have, which includes gift wrapping, sleigh riding, Christmas caroling, and building gingerbread houses on ice. Every day after they don their own individually styled Santa garb, Gabrus sends them off on their challenges with an amusing and energetic “Ready! Set! Ho!” According to Red Arrow International, there is a special Christmas present delivery challenge where the Santas must quietly deliver presents in a pitch-black home without waking a baby. Another contest has the Santas dodging laser beams as they attempt to find the milk and cookies in a dark room. All of the contests give the winner a shot at immunity. As those who lose are voted out and their numbers drop, there will be a Christmas Eve finale, where the nation’s best Santa Claus will be crowned and the victor will receive a big Christmas bag of prize money.

So what exactly makes a great Santa besides a hearty laugh and jolly demeanor? The Santas themselves have many qualities that they think are important. In a preview clip, as many examples as there are Santas are given. Santa Paul from Nome, Alaska, says what makes a great Santa is from the heart. Santa Joy from Oswego, Illinois, describes a great Santa as someone who shows good will toward others. Santa Steve who hails from Palatine, Illinois, says it takes a great attitude all year long. Santa Karl from Dallas, Texas, believes all Santas should be pretty tolerant of children, too. “That comes with the territory,” he says. Santa John says Christmas is about family and putting smiles on peoples’ faces, both young and old. Santa Brandon may sum it up best of all when he simply said, “You have to love people.”
