Kelly Ripa hobbled out onto the set of Live! With Kelly and Michael on Thursday, rocking a pair of crutches and a soft boot on her left foot, after a Wednesday dance injury fractured several bones in her foot, MSN is reporting.
After co-host Michael Strahan helped Kelly to her seat, she explained what happened.
“I was in dance class, like I typically usually am, and someone had left a weight on the floor. All I know is I did a jump — and in my mind I’m an incredible dancer, graceful as can be — and I landed on the weight and my foot went over and under the weight. It sounded like bubble wrap, you guys.”
“Somebody either left it not on their mat or maybe kicked it when they were dancing. All I know is I did a jump… and I landed on the weight. My foot went over and under the weight.”
You’d think an injury like that would require an ambulance ride, but Kelly took a pass, thinking that a public figure of her caliber getting into an ambulance would draw too much attention. Or as she puts it, she “didn’t want to be on the evening news.”
After an X-ray, CT Scan and some long hours in the E/R, Kelly learned that she’d fractured four bones in her foot. Fortunately for her, she has a medical condition called a calcaneonavicular coalition – “It sounds like a war strategy and not really a medical problem” – basically, it means that her bones are particularly close together. For Kelly, that means that she won’t need surgery or a cast, which is good news.
But the boot stays, for a while, anyway.
“I’m not going to be in this that long. Six weeks, I give it three weeks. This was my big hope and my dream that nobody would notice. It’s very traumatic looking but I feel fine.”
