Martin And Shamicka Lawrence File For Divorce

Comedian Martin Lawrence and his second wife Shamicka Gibbs will be ending their two year marriage. Lawrence and Gibbs have been married since July 2010 but recently filed for divorce.

On The Red Carpet reports that the 47-year-old comedian has two daughters, age 9 and 11, with Shamicka. Martin is seeking joint custody of the children. A spokesman for the comedian said that the decision to separate was mutual. The spokesman said:

“The couple has made the joint decision to part ways. Out of love and respect for one another we will continue to remain friends and raise our two beautiful daughters together.”

Lawrence and Gibb, who dated for 15-years before their marriage, separated last week. TMZ reports that Martin filed for divorce over the weekend citing “irreconcilable differences.”

Martin and Shamicka Lawrence signed a prenuptial agreement before they wed in July of 2010, so separating assets should be a relatively smooth process.

Martin was previously married to Patricia Southall. Martin and Southall had a daughter together, Southall is currently married to former NFL star Emmitt Smith.

Martin Lawrence is best known for his roles in “Bad Boys,” “Nothing To Lose,” and “Life.” He’s recently had success with the “Big Momma’s House” series.
