Jesse Eisenberg’s Latest Movie, ‘American Ultra’: There’s Nothing Worse Than A Stoned, Cold Killer

While things may have gotten a little rough for Jesse Eisenberg recently with his comments at San Diego Comic-Con, it looks like — for his latest character, at least — things are going to get a whole lot worse. American Ultra stars Jesse Eisenberg as a stoner who turns out to be a government superspy.

According to the IMDb page, the synopsis for American Ultra starring Jesse Eisenberg is as follows.

“A stoner — who is in fact a government agent — is marked as a liability and targeted for extermination. But he’s too well-trained and too high for them to handle.”

The very first trailer for American Ultra was released back in May, which showed the stoner side to Jesse Eisenberg’s character, Mike Howell. Mike works as a gas station cashier and he, along with his girlfriend, Phoebe (played by Twilight’s Kristen Stewart), do nothing much else than get stoned. However, when Eisenberg’s character starts killing people who are trying to eliminate him, things heat up.

Entertainment Weekly has just released the second trailer for American Ultra. The emphasis for this trailer is more about Jesse’s character’s “super soldier abilities” and less about the comedic stoner humor. Once Eisenberg’s character starts killing, it seems he quickly dispatches a large contingent of agents using nothing more than common implements such as a spoon, a frying pan, and a rack of lightbulbs.

Jesse Eisenberg recently got into hot water at San Diego Comic-Con when he compared his experience of Comic-Con to “genocide.”

“It is like being screamed at by thousands of people. I don’t know what the experience is throughout history, probably some kind of genocide. I can’t think of anything that’s equivalent.”

Eisenberg later tried to apologize several times for his comment but managed to dig himself into an even bigger hole with his comments. In the process of trying to smooth over his original comments, Jesse Eisenberg not only managed to make the situation worse but insulted journalism as well. It will be interesting to see if this incident will affect audience opinion of American Ultra.

American Ultra, starring Jesse Eisenberg, Kristen Stewart, and Topher Grace, is scheduled to be released on August 21, 2015, by Lionsgate.
