Tyler Perry: A Man Of Faith

Tyler Perry is known for his unique humor intertwined with strong messages of Christian faith and overcoming obstacles. The writer, director, and star of the hilarious Madea movies, Tyler Perry has recently taken a stand against the media frenzy concerning the condition of his friend, Bobbi Kristina Brown.

Bobbi Kristina, the daughter of pop legend (and close friend of Tyler Perry) Whitney Houston and singer Bobby Brown, is resting in a hospice facility. The recent arrival of two hearses and construction of a white tent to provide protection from media resulted in wild speculation that Bobbi Kristina had passed away, to the outrage of Tyler Perry.

Tyler Perry understandably took great offense to the rumors concerning Bobbi Kristina, and has let it be known in no uncertain terms that he is outraged by this blatant disregard for Krissi and her family, reports the Christian Post.

“And as difficult as this time is for the people that love both Whitney and Krissi, what makes it more egregious is the blatant disrespect, lies, and ignorance that are rapidly printed in this awful time. For some reason, it has become human nature in our society to look for, seek out, and celebrate darkness, glory in tragedy, and enjoy reading and reporting it.

It makes me sad to know that everybody wants to be the first to report something awful. So much so, that they find it OK to speak death onto those who are still alive. May I ask you all to please show some decency and respect? Not only to Krissi’s family, but also to the other families that are there in this place. Not only is Krissi at the center but there are several other families who are grieving the loss of their loved ones at the same time. It’s heartbreaking to think that even in a time like this, this child is still not allowed any peace.”

Tyler Perry is asking for prayers for Bobbi Kristina and her family. A man of faith, Tyler Perry does not just claim to believe in the Lord, he actually strives to live his life in accordance with the Christian faith. The following quote from Tyler Perry shows that he puts God above everything else, even the desire for money.

“Did you know you can’t say ‘Jesus’ in a sitcom? They told me that and I was like, ‘You gotta be kiddin’ me. If you don’t want my God here, you don’t want me here either.’ God has been too good to me to go and try to sell out to get some money… It ain’t gonna happen.”

In this world, especially in Hollywood, where money is king and faith is something that used to be mainstream, it is rare to find a celebrity that will stand in the face of conflict and confess his belief in Jesus. Faith is an instrumental part of Tyler Perry’s works, as well.

“Hollywood is finally waking up to the fact that people who go to church also go to the movies. I’m not sure what took them so long to see that or how long they’ll keep it up.”
