Utah Girl, 12, Dead: 15-Year-Old Boy Arrested After Girl, 12, Found Dead In Field

A Utah girl, 12, was found dead in a field, and police have since arrested a 15-year-old boy in connection with her death.

According to the Toronto Sun, Kailey Vijil was “lured” from her home around midnight. Interestingly enough, investigators say that the pre-teen actually had her parents permission to go out that late at night.

Police say that the boy who asked the girl to go out recently did this sort of thing with at least one other girl.

“There was some sort of dialogue that enticed her to come outside of her home. We have at least one other incident that appears to be the same individual, using the same dialogue, to attempt to get an 11-year-old girl to come out, but her parents intervened,” said West Valley City Police Department spokesperson, Roxanne Vainuku.

The Utah girl, 12, was found dead just a couple of hours after she went out. Kailey Vijil’s mother said that she got worried when her daughter didn’t return home, and decided to go out looking for her. Around 1:30 a.m, the mother went up to two police officers at a 7-11 and told them that her daughter had been “missing for 90 minutes.”

According to Yahoo! News, the girl’s body was found a short time later.

“Officers organized a search and used cell phone technology to narrow the area, the police department said. Vigil’s body was discovered in a field of 3- to 4-foot high grass, shrubs and trees behind a row of homes.”

The 15-year-old boy (his name has not been released because he is a minor) is the sole suspect in this case. Police have not said what caused Kayley’s death, but there was “no evidence” to suggest that Kayley was stabbed or shot. There are many possibilities on what might have happened to her after she allegedly met up with the teenage boy, but no definitive information has been released at this time.

After the Utah girl, 12, was found dead, police obtained a search warrant to search the home of the 15-year-old boy. He has since been charged with murder. As previously reported by the Inquisitr, the teen is being held at the Salt Lake County Juvenile Detention Center and is facing one count of criminal homicide.

“According to Utah law, the 15-year-old can be charged as an adult, but a number of factors have to be determined first. If he remains in the juvenile system, he can only be detained until he is 21. If he is tried as an adult, he could face life in prison,” reports the Inquisitr.
