Hot New Girl Band From Japan — The Youngest Member Is 80!
Girl bands, boy bands, and pop stars in general come in all shapes and sizes. The average age, however, is usually a few decades younger than the the most youthful member of the KBG84 band, where the minimum age to join is 80. Currently, the oldest member of the pop band is 97.
According to the Mirror, the girl band is made up of 33 members, all of whom hail from the tiny island of Kohama in Okinawa. Only 600 inhabitants are happy to call Kohama home.
Since people from this region eat more vegetables and less sugar, their life expectancy is one of the highest in the world. Unlike those from other areas in Japan, where rice is the staple food, people in Okinawa enjoy a certain type of sweet potato with purple flesh.
While some may believe the girl band to be too advanced in age for such activity and excitement, they firmly state that they are not yet ready for Heaven. Ninety-two-year-old Tomi Menaka shared her thoughts regarding the first time she was referred to as an idol.
“When I first heard someone call us ‘idols’ I thought an idol meant someone who had lived a long life and was at the gates of heaven. But in Tokyo they told me it was an entertainer – which was a relief because I thought it meant I was on my way to heaven.”
Apparently, Tomi has a lot more life left in her, and she plans to make the most of it, reports the Telegraph.
“I hadn’t even been to Tokyo or Osaka. I wanted to go there before I went to heaven. Going to Tokyo for the first time, I thought I was so lucky to be born. I got to meet my grandchildren. I’ll never forget it. I was moved to tears.”

The name of the band is a play on another girl band from Japan, AKB48. The girls in this band are of a more traditional age for pop idols. Their older counterparts do not let age define them, however, and have been in seventh heaven since forming their girl band. KBG84 enjoys singing about nature.
