Miss Dominican Republic Is Married, Will Lose Crown

Carlina Duran was given a crown when she was named Miss Domincan Republic but it looks like she’ll have to give it back since she was given a ring in 2009.

Magaly Febles, the director of the Miss Dominican Republic beauty contest, said that Duran will be stripped of her crown since contestants in the Miss Universe pageant must be single. Febles said that Duran was married in 2009 but did not tell officials about her marriage.

Dulcita Lieggi, 24, was the runner up in the Miss Dominican Republic contest. Lieggi will be given the crown during a news conference tonight.

Duran, 25, was crowned Miss Dominican Republic last week. She was scheduled to compete at the Miss Universe contest later this Summer but now Lieggi will represent the Dominican Republic at the beauty pageant.

Febles said that the Dominican newspaper Diario Libre initially broke the news about Duran’s marriage. Duran acknowledged that she was married but has not made any further comments.
