Throughout their marriage, Hugh Jackman’s wife, Deborra-Lee Furness, has been a good sport. She’s seen her husband drooled at by fans, and has witnessed his star rise, but there’s one thing she won’t tolerate coming between them — Angelina Jolie.
Hugh Jackman and his wife, Deborra, joked around when they sat down with Australia’s Today show to discuss the success of their 19-year marriage. Deborra then joked the key to lasting in Hollywood is forbidding Hugh to co-star in any movie with Angelina Jolie.
The couple, of course, are poking fun at how Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt’s relationship formed. Rumors were circulating that Brad Pitt and Jennifer Aniston were on the rocks, and during that time Pitt was filming Mr. and Mrs. Smith with Jolie, which is how they first met and fell in love with each other. Eventually, Aniston and Pitt got divorced and Brad and Angie became a co-parenting super team practically overnight.
Obviously aware of Angelina’s stunning looks and allure, Hugh Jackman’s wife joked, “I’ve told his agent he’s not allowed to work with Angelina. I’m sure she’s very nice and I love what she’s doing — shining a light on awareness for adoption.”
Of course, Deborra added a quick, “just kidding.” That said, Deborra-Lee has been upset about rumors in the past, and it has nothing to do with Hugh’s female fans or co-stars fawning all over him. In fact, reports that Jackman was secretly gay are the ones that really hit hard for Deborra-Lee. Back in 2013, Jackman spoke out about the rumors of his sexuality.
‘If I was [homosexual], I would be. I don’t think – to me – it’s not the most interesting thing about a person anyway, but I do get frustrated for Deb, because I see Deb go, ‘Ah, this is crazy.’ On some level it’s a compliment, you know, because it only happens when you’ve got to a certain point in your career.”
According to reports, his wife said that the gossip surrounding her husband was “offensive” to their children Oscar and Ava.
The rumors aren’t the only way the couple has been tested. Hugh and Deb have held a strong front in the wake of Hugh Jackman’s numerous health scares with skin cancer. The actor has been treated for skin cancer four times in a year and a half. At the time, he said, “I go every three months for checkups. It’s the new normal for me. My doctor says I’ll likely have more and if that’s your cross to bear in life, you should be so lucky.”
