‘Walking Dead’ Fans Need To Get Ready For The ‘6-Hour Movie’ That Will Be ‘Fear The Walking Dead’, Plus New Image Emerges

While AMC‘s The Walking Dead started its story after some sort of plague had turned most of the human inhabitants on earth into mindless zombies –or “walkers” as they have come to be known on the show – the companion program, Fear The Walking Dead, looks at the outbreak as it develops. But that’s not the only difference. When Rick Grimes woke from his coma, the only thing he wanted to do was to get back to his family. In Fear The Walking Dead, fans will follow another family as they struggle to cope and, ultimately, survive in a cruel new reality, but this family will be more dysfunctional than the Grimes family.

According to Fear The Walking Dead showrunner Dave Erickson, the family in question is a blended family consisting of Travis and Madison and their children, brought into this new family after previous marriages. Not only is this family struggling to get along and create new dynamics together, impending doom will shed new light on how they interact with each other, Erickson recently told TVLine.

“We’re telling our story through the filter of this highly dysfunctional blended family. It’s about the shark you don’t see. It’s the education of our characters as to what is going on and how the world is unraveling and what is happening to people.”

Dave Erickson also reveals that Season 1 of Fear The Walking Dead will be a slow burn in relation to the walkers we know from The Walking Dead. Although, even with the slow unraveling of a world in crisis, do not expect Fear The Walking Dead to be boring. Erickson likened it instead to a “six-hour movie”. Both he and creator, Robert Kirkman, wanted to explore how difficult it would be for humans who don’t know of the existence of zombies to kill people they know and love – a stark contrast to what fans see in the sister show, The Walking Dead.

“Robert [Kirkman] wanted to really dwell on what it’s like to [commit] a violent act — especially in our world, because it’s so early, and our walkers are fresher and far more human. It’s [emotionally] difficult to kill them, even when somebody’s coming after you… In terms of emotional tension, when we put one of our characters through a moment where they have to commit some brutality to defend themselves or others, they’ll suffer for it.”

On top of the recent spate of Fear The Walking Dead images, Variety has also released the following image of Australian born actor Alycia Debnam-Carey (The 100, Into The Storm) who will play Alicia, the high achieving daughter of Madison.
