Navy SEALS Die After Training: Two SEALS Killed In Training Exercise At Bottom Of Pool

Two Navy SEALS die after training at a base in Virginia. The tragic accident happened last Friday in a swimming pool that resulted in their deaths.

The New York Post reports that Special Warfare Operator 1st Class Seth Cody Lewis died Friday and Special Warfare Operator 1st Class Brett Allen Marihugh of Livonia, Michigan, died on Sunday. Both were training at the Combat Swimming Training Facility at Joint Expeditionary Base Little Creek-Fort Story and found unresponsive at the bottom of the pool. Lewis was 32, and Marihugh was 34.

Lt. David Lloyd says the men were members of the Naval Special Warfare Group 2.

Lewis was in the process of physical fitness training at the pool, WAVY 10 reports.

Capt. Pete Vasely, Naval Special Warfare Group 2 Commander, tells the station that the two Navy SEALS who died after training were respected and admired.

“Both of these fierce warriors were admired and highly respected among everyone who knew them. We will continue to investigate what happened. We owe it to the families and our teammates.”

Lewis served as a U.S. Marine from 2001 to 2005 and joined the Navy in 2006. He was then transferred to Virginia after he completing Basic Underwater Demolition/SEAL training in Coronado, California, in 2007. He did several tours in Afghanistan and Iraq and has a number of medals, including the Bronze Star with Combat Valor, U.S.Navy/Marine Corps Commendation Medal with Valor, Purple Heart, U.S. Navy/Marine Corps Achievement Medal with Valor, and many other medals. Lewis is survived by his wife.

Marihugh served in the U.S. Marine Corps from 1999 to 2003 and joined the Navy on December 4, 2006. In October of 2007, he completed basic underwater demolition/SEAL training in Coronado, California, and continued on to advanced training.

The Navy SEAL served with SEALS teams on the East and West Coast. His various medals and decorations include the Bronze Star, Joint Service Achievement Medal, Combat Action Ribbon, and Navy/Marine Corps Commendation Medal with Combat V in support of the Global War on Terrorism, the report says. Marihugh is survived by his father, mother, sisters, and stepmother.

An investigation is ongoing into the death of these two brave military members who were part of an elite group serving the country. The Navy is eager to learn how the fatal accident occurred and why the Navy SEALS had to die during training exercises.

Last month, the Inquisitr covered another tragedy involving a Navy SEAL who died after a training exercise in California due to a parachute malfunction.
