A South Carolina man named Will Stack has captured millions of viewers with his recent Facebook video. Will, an African-American male, wants the world to know that “not all officers are racist.” Due to the heightened number of racially sensitive cases that have occurred around the country over the past couple months, Will felt compelled to share details about his recent interaction with a South Carolina police officer following a traffic stop.
So he filmed a quick video with his cell phone while sitting inside his car. Stack, a 22-year-old National Guardsman, touched on a number of controversial aspects of race relations. He’s also asking for the world to stop “labeling,” reports Daily Mail.
Here’s an excerpt from the video:
“People need to understand not all officers are crooked, not all officers are racist, bad people, not all people who get shot and Tased or arrested by officers are innocent victims. Just because you’re black doesn’t mean you’re a victim. Just because you’re white doesn’t mean you’re racist. Just because you’re a cop doesn’t mean you’re a bad person.
“This world really needs to stop putting labels on people and things and see them as who they are: people doing jobs, doing things. Ignorance has no color. God doesn’t see color. Why should we?”
On Apr. 8, Will shared the video on Facebook. His powerful message quickly began circulating on the social media network. Now it has gone viral with more than 2 million views. Thousands of Facebook users have applauded him for the moving video.
“You are truly an exceptional young man! Thank you so much for your statement. As a mother of a young man that has been an officer for 2 years, I worry for him and his little girl every day when he goes to work. I wish everyone could see things the way we do! God bless you!”
Will’s viral video comes not long after the highly publicized shootings of Walter Scott and Eric Harris. Ironically, both men were shot and killed by police officers while attempting to flee, and both incidents were caught on camera. However, the recent killings are only two of several that have taken place over the past couple years. In addition to Walter Scott and Eric Harris, the deaths of Michael Brown, Tamir Rice and Eric Garner were also controversial cases that made national headlines. The shootings have only added to the controversial aspects of race relations. However, Will Stack has let the world know, that there is a silver lining – all officers are not racist.
