Ku Klux Klan: 1920s KKK Membership Application Leaked Online

A Ku Klux Klan membership application from the 1920s has been released online.

According to Slate, the application (published by the Ku Klux Press) was mailed to prospects.

Within the introductory section of the application, the Knights of the Ku Klux Klan start off by mentioning that they were referred by a friend.

“We have been requested by one of your personal friends to get in touch with you and inform you of this organization. And, in view of this request, we are sending you this form.”

The organization further explains what will take place once the completed application was received without giving away very much information.

“When we receive this with all the questions below properly answered by you and if same is satisfactory we will impart to you the information your friend desires you to have. Without delay you will fill in, sign and return. You will find stamped envelope enclosed for this purpose. Very truly yours, Knights of the Ku Klux Klan.”

The KKK membership application consists of 20 questions covering a number of different topics — including age, occupation, marital status, race, political stance, and religion.

The application also goes a little deeper when it comes to the nature of the questions — especially with such topics as White Supremacy, fraternal orders, motive, and whether the applicant was a Gentile or Jew.

Slate reports that Ian Brabner, a bookseller and blogger, claims that the date shown in the upper-left corner (8-2-21) was the application’s printing date.

As reported by Slate in 2012, the present-day KKK application does not ask questions about the prospective member’s religion or national origin.

On the contrary, the questions listed on the current application primarily emphasize race.

According to the report, current KKK applications must discuss their work history — disclosing whether they have worked for the government or any law enforcement agency in any capacity.

“They must affirm that they are white Christians and that they don’t belong to other secret orders like the freemasons.”

The report further states that the Ku Klux Klan application also asks if the applicant believes that all men are created equal. In order to be seriously considered for acceptance, the correct answer reportedly must be “no.”
