Drunk Man Walks Into Wild Elephant Territory, Taunts It And Almost Gets Himself Killed [Video]
Here is the latest addition to the nominations for this year’s Darwin awards. Our latest contender hails from Sri Lanka in South Asia. And his claim to fame? Taking on an adult elephant head on – and living to tell the tale!
Shocking video footage, uploaded to LiveLeak on March 10 shows a group of people standing by a road watching a wild elephant munch on. The only thing that separates the group of people from the elephant is a flimsy looking electric fence. That is when our contender, the drunk guy walks in. The man is first seen walking dangerously close to the elephant and extending his arms towards the giant animal and then sitting right in front of it in a taunting manner. It is unclear what exactly he is trying to do. In the meantime, harrowed onlookers call out to the man and ask him to get away from the elephant. The elephant in the meantime continues to munch on.
“Hey idiot are you crazy? What the f**k are you doing”?, a man is heard shouting to him in the Sinhalese language.
The cameraman then runs towards a minibus, presumably from where the drunk man had alighted after seeing the elephant. He asks the people inside the van to take the man away from the elephant.
However, before anyone could do anything, the drunk man slips through the fence and ends up being right in front of the elephant. The huge animal, which according to the video description was responsible for the death of another person a few weeks ago took no time in heading for the man and attacking him. It is not clear in the video whether the man was trampled by the elephant. Meanwhile, terrified onlookers scare away the animal by shouting and making noises. The elephant, visibly scared moves away and leaves the man alone.
A few seconds later, people rescue the drunk man and he is seen being taking away from the fence into the minivan. The man did receive injuries and was bleeding. However, it is not clear if his injuries were of a life-threatening nature. In fact he was lucky he was able to walk away from the site.
A day after it was uploaded, the video has gained popularity and as of now, over 100,000 people have seen it. The incident was reportedly captured at the Udawalawe National Park in Sri Lanka, a nation known for its elephant population.
This is not the first time the Inquisitr has reported about people making extremely stupid mistakes in the presence of wild animals. Last year, a man from New Delhi, India was not as lucky as this Sri Lankan man when he fell into a Tiger enclosure and was mauled to death by the giant cat.
