Meghan Trainor Is Not An Overnight Success

Meghan Trainor may have topped the pop singles charts last year as an unknown artist, but despite rumors, the pop singer is far from being an overnight sensation. In fact, her hard work recently paid off as she gears up to accept the Music Biz 2015 “Breakthrough Artist of the Year Award.”

Business Wire reports that Music Biz’s President, James Donio, says that Trainor’s award is well-deserved, given that the singer has been in show business for many years, something that most people are unaware of.

“Many people think Meghan was an overnight success, but she has actually been working in the music business for several years, a lot of that time in Nashville. Now, we’re thrilled to recognize her incredible talent in the city where her songwriting kicked into high gear.”

To understand a bit more about Trainor’s success and how she reached the top of the increasingly competitive pop charts, it’s important to look back over her lifetime of musical interests and accomplishments.

According to Billboard, Trainor, born in 1993, began creating music at the tender age of seven, while living with her family on Massachusetts’ Nantucket Island. Within four years, she wrote her first song. While attending Cape Cod’s Nauset High School, she began playing numerous instruments, including the trumpet, keyboard, and guitar.

By the time Trainor was 18, she had already self-released three albums. Additionally, prior to achieving international success with her smash hit, “All About That Bass,” Meghan Trainor had already written numerous songs for high-profile country, R&B, rock, and reggae singers. Her determination, talent, and eagerness to learn landed her a record deal with Epic Records.

Shortly after, “All About That Bass” was released, catapulting Meghan Trainor into super-stardom, and gaining admiration for her work from other superstars, including One Direction’s Harry Styles, who recently collaborated with her on her single, “London Lights.” Trainor’s album, Title, reached No. 1 on the Billboard charts in January, and sold 195,000 copies during its first-week release.

Along with being honored at the 2015 Music Biz Awards, Trainor was nominated for several other awards last year, such as American Music Awards 2014 “New Artist of the Year,” and the 2014 MTV Europe Music Award for “Best New Musician (Female).”

Meghan Trainor is slated to accept her “Breakthrough Artist of the Year Award” on May 14 at Nashville’s Sheraton Nashville Downtown Hotel. She joins in the ranks of numerous other stars who received the same award in the past, including R&B sensation John Legend and country superstar Carrie Underwood.
