Brazilian Cop Performs Religious Exorcism On Drunk Party-Goer Before Arresting Him

As fantastical as the headline reads, it is, in fact, true; a Brazilian cop performed an impromptu religious exorcism on a drunken party-goer before arresting him to rid him of his “Devil’s Brew” demons.

The incident, which was caught on camera by a passerby, shows a Brazilian police officer performing an exorcism on the suspect, who was clearly very drunk.

Cops were called to the scene in Goianira in central Brazil after the drunken man, Rodrigo Betti, 28, started abusing the arresting officers.

On arrival, Lieutenant Ricardo Mendes reportedly grabbed the drunken man, placed his hand on his head, and muttered some words in Latin, eventually exclaiming for all to hear, “Unleash his body, Jesus. Out in the name of Jesus!”

The man who captured the astonishing exorcism on his phone’s camera, Paulo Cortez, said to reporters, “The drunk began speaking in a weird way, his voice was very low, and he looked very strange. The policeman then shouted ‘Unleash his body, Jesus. Out in the name of Jesus.’ I then realised he was doing an exorcism on the man. It was incredible.”

While summoning the devil to exit the suspect’s body, the officer brought the man to his knees, as Cortez explained, “At one point the man fell to the ground writhing and shouting. It really looked as if he was possessed. But the policeman was doing a great job. Someone behind me then said he was going to get a priest.”

Following the bizarre incident, a Brazilian police spokesman said, “When the priest arrived the situation was under control and the man had been fully exorcised. The officer acted properly in the situation and did not abuse his authority. He believes in God and regularly goes to church.”

For his part, Betti, who was then arrested and released from custody the next day, said, “I can’t remember a thing about last night, I must have been possessed by something.”
