Ubisoft Announces ‘The Crew’ Open Beta

Ubisoft has announced that The Crew will be receiving an Open Beta for gamers who want to take a test drive through the upcoming online racer. The Open Beta for The Crew will take place on November 25 through November 27 for the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.

The catch is that in order to take part in the The Crew‘s Open Beta, you must have either a PlayStation Plus or Xbox Live Gold account. Those who are currently on the free services for both consoles will not be eligible for the Open Beta.

The Open Beta follows a closed beta that allowed gamers to experience the entire United States “without seeing a loading screen.” According to Polygon, the Closed Beta would allow traversing across the fruited plains. Gamers could also take part in the missions and skill challenges across the in-game Midwest and East Coast. The West Coast, Mountain States and South regions were open for joy riding across the land.

The Crew’s Open Beta will have the challenges available for the Midwest and East Coast again but it appears in the press release that the other regions will not be available.

The Crew joins an ever growing list of games that include a persistant online universe similar to Destiny. Developed by Ivory Tower, The Crew boasts the ability to seamlessly jump in and out of each other’s games across the United States at any time to either join forces or battle other teams in challenges. While there is a single player campaign estimated around 20 hours in length, the longevity of the game is in the persistent world where there is no loading screens and functions like an MMO.

The press release on the official site for The Crew reads:

The Open Beta will allow players to explore the entire United States and complete challenges in two of the five regions available in the game, the Midwest and East Coast.

The PvP lobbies in these regions will also be accessible for players who want to prove their competitive skills. For those who like to customize and fine-tune their ride, two of the five spec classes, Street and Dirt, will be available.

The Open Beta will be accessible to all Xbox Live and PlayStation Plus members. For the Xbox One, some online features will require an Xbox Live Gold subscription.

Ubisoft has yet to give details on how to hop into the driver’s seat for The Crew’s Open Beta, but promise to have more information in the coming week. As The Inquisitr has reported previously, Ubisoft is under pressure following connectivity issues and bugs that are plaguing their biggest releases this holiday season. With The Crew set to release on December 2nd, 2014 one can only hope that the Open Beta will help the launch of this game go more smoothly than Assassin’s Creed: Unity.
