Australian Who Steered His Light Airplane Down A Road Towards A Pub For A Drink Now Faces Charges

Absolutely nothing stands in the way of a true-blue Australian and his pint of beer, a fact proven by a 37-year-old man who recently drove his vehicle down to a pub. Except his vehicle was not meant to be driven on the road, but flown in the sky. Officials have charged an Australian man with endangering the local population because he took his light airplane on a drive to the pub for a beer.

Officers were certainly not amused after the man taxied his two-seater down the main street in the rural mining town of Newman, Western Australia, and have charged him endangering a life. He will have to appear in court later this month.

Interestingly, the man doesn’t have pilot’s license, and his plane didn’t have wings. After parking his plane, the “pilot” clambered out of the craft and ordered a beer at the Purple Pub, reported Yahoo! News.

Upon seeing the plane, more than 200 locals gathered to gawk at the unusual spectacle of having a plane parked in the lot of their local watering hole. Surprisingly, despite being an airplane, the man did a great job parking the plane into a single spot, said a local. Still, a local Sargent advised the population not to idolize the man or ignore the act.

“People think it was a bit of a laugh but it was very dangerous and we’re not very happy with it.”

Ironically, it was police themselves who first attempted to address the potentially dangerous incident with humor. Esperance Police’s Tweeter account posted a humorous tweet regarding the incident,

Many Australians are applauding the man’s audacity and have even taken to calling him a ‘legend’ for his bold, but reckless actions, reported New York Daily News. However, the police certainly aren’t impressed with the act and have gone ahead and issued a summons to him. The man is asked to present himself in the court later this month.

Speaking about the incident, Sgt. Mark McKenzie said, “He’s one of our local characters. It was a pretty stupid thing to do. Kids were coming home from school. It could have been very ugly.”

The officer was particularly concerned because the plane didn’t have its wings, and still the pilot was able to maneuver the plane thanks to the powerful propellers. Moreover, the propellers were kept running too. What’s more, the aircraft was found to have an exposed fuel line hanging from the side of the aircraft attached to an insecure jerry can inside the cabin to enable the engine to run.

“All he needed was one gust of wind… because without the wings it’s not stable.”

But in a bizarre twist, when tested for blood alcohol levels, the man passed a breath test, reported BBC News. It appears he was just thirsty for his favorite lager.
