Joe Giudice Celebrates Pricey Night Out Despite Looming Jail Time

RHONJ star Joe Giudice is facing more than three years in prison, but he seems to be pretty relaxed about it. With almost 18 months to enjoy freedom while his wife, Teresa, serves time in jail, the reality star appeared to have a smile on his face when interviewed by Watch What Happens Live host Andy Cohen last Friday.

While fans of the show speculated on Twitter that he may have been smirking because he was enjoying a drink from Andy’s bar, the New York Daily News reports that Bravo may feature Joe’s life as a temporary single dad on the next season of The Real Housewives of New Jersey. That’s cash in Giudice’s pocket, and a good reason for him to smile, considering the couple owes over $13 million to creditors. He was also ordered to pay $414,000 in restitution along with his 41-month sentence.

“Among the “touching” moments viewers can expect to see next season will be the Giudice’s final Christmas together… and a minor storyline about Joe Giudice caring for the couple’s children while Teresa is locked up.”

On Sunday night’s episode of The Real Housewives of New Jersey — filmed months before the judge sentenced the couple to jail time — Joe took Teresa out for a dinner and a night in a swanky hotel, an effort to celebrate their marriage, one that will be put to the test when Teresa leaves for prison in January 5.

The dinner and overnight stay was Joe’s way of compensating for his wife not going on a trip to Florida with most of the RHONJ cast, although it’s entirely possible that their legal issues prevented her from traveling out of state, with Teresa stating, “There’s things going on in our lives.” What better way to celebrate those “things” than dining in a fancy restaurant with Joe, who so eloquently compared the oysters they ate to a “sloppy vajayjay.”

“Joe and I used to go out more often, but now we’ve cut back a little bit. We’re working really hard to keep this family on a float.”

The couple hardly “cut back” when they celebrated their temporary freedom on their “date night.” While it’s not surprising to fans, Joe and Teresa showed total disregard to all of the money they owe creditors and, at the time of filming, a looming sentencing date.

NJ.com entertainment writer Vicki Hyman questioned Joe Giudice’s authenticity when he toasts his wife at dinner, something Hyman states is “ghost-written, because it’s actually rather sweet.”

“To our girls, our health, and for being the luckiest guy in the world, because I’m married to you.”

Joe’s luck finally ran out, at least for the next few years. The couple will soon experience the difference between a life of luxury and time in federal prison. Even if Bravo does feature Joe on RHONJ while Teresa is locked up, it’s hard to imagine that he will be able to go out for oysters with four kids to raise, three houses on the market, and a massive pile of bills to pay.

Watch Teresa and Joe Giudice talk about their upcoming jail time with Andy Cohen on Watch What Happens Live on Bravo, starting at 9 p.m. on October 6.
