Bruce Jenner debuted a strange new mullet hairstyle this week that many observers believe is the next step in his sex change journey.
The 63-year-old former Olympic hero has reportedly been transitioning gradually into a woman, with surgery last year to shave his Adam’s apple and facial tweaking to make him appear more feminine.
Sources say that since splitting with wife Kris Jenner last year, Bruce Jenner has embraced his new lifestyle, and his new haircut appears to prove it. Bruce was spotted this week with a mullet, which was quite a bit longer and more flowing than his previous hairstyles.
Though Bruce Jenner has not spoken publicly about his sex change plans, sources close to the Keeping Up With The Kardashians star said he is quite serious about the major life change. He met last year with Renee Richards, a transgender rights advocate who helped him work out what it would take to transition into life as a woman.
The split from Kris Jenner was reportedly the spark Bruce needed to embrace his new life.
“Bruce looks back at his past fondly, but he is doing what he is doing with his facial surgeries and other changes because he is interested in his future,” a source told HollywoodLife last year. “And that future is to be as close to a woman as possible. It’s embarrassing to the family, he knows that, but he has to live his life, not Kris’s life anymore.”
Many took the long flowing hair as the latest sign that Bruce is growing more comfortable with the new lifestyle.
In the past, Bruce Jenner has brushed aside reports that his growing hair and facial augmentations are part of a sex change. When asked about his growing hair last year, Bruce told Us Weekly: “I turned 64 two weeks ago and I still have hair to grow… I’m celebrating!”
