Facebook Porn? Female Rowers Slam Social Network For Removing Naked Charity Pics

An incredible charity effort from a gang of hearty female rowers saw the plucky Brits raise an “oar-some” £3,400 for Macmillan Cancer Support, after baring their lithesome limbs for a special charity calendar and drumming up advertising on social media sites such as Twitter and Facebook.

Yet in their infinite wisdom, Facebook slammed the calendar as little more than gratuitous porn.

As you can imagine, the nautical ladies were left fuming with Facebook’s decision to ban their butts, be they naked or not, from the site.

The calendar which, as these things go, is done in quite a tasteful and artful fashion, was dismissed as “explicitly sexual content” by the social media giant, and thus the powers that be removed it forthwith from the world wide web.

Warwick Rowing’s Women’s Naked Calendar, according to the Daily Record, features 17 members from the posh university in completely naked poses by the river Avon and in their boat house.

The calendar is apparently brimming with saucy yet tasteful photos where the girls’ modesty is covered either by life jackets or clever camera angles.

You get the idea, you’d probably see a lot more flesh five seconds into a Rhianna or Miley Cyrus video.

Yet despite raising a whopping amount of money for the charity of their choice, the naked, but not naughty, ladies were told by Facebook that they were breaching the social networking site’s “strict policy against the sharing of pornographic content.”

Yeah right! For anyone familiar with Facebook, such a high and mighty stance on behalf of the “puritan” social network is bound to raise more than just a few eyebrows.

For the playful and philanthropic ladies responsible for the calendar, Facebook’s actions were a right old eye-opener and calendar girl Sophie Bell blasted Facebook for their righteous bureaucracy, which she believes harms their chances of raising even more money for charity.

The 20-year-old history and politics student said:

“They say it is because of nudity, but we are not violating any of their terms and all the pictures we post are not indecent images or inappropriate. There are loads of similar nude charity calendars who have Facebook pages plastered across the site – why aren’t they being asked to takes theirs down.

“It is a charity calendar — how can it be porn? The Facebook account for the male rower’s charity calendar hasn’t been deleted and their page is the same as ours. It is borderline sexism.”

Fellow calendar girl Hettie Reed agrees wholeheartedly. The 22-year-old added:

“All of the girls are strategically covered up and our calendar has been praised for its artistic and tasteful nature. The photos are no different from the holiday snaps of men and women that appear on everyone’s Facebook feeds.”

Funnily enough, a spokesperson for Facebook has now said the photos were removed “in error” and they have since been reinstated. Which I think you’ll agree is, quite simply, “oar-inspiring.”
