Can One Man Control A City Just Like In ‘Watch Dogs’? [VIDEO]

For those who love gaming, there is a game out right now featuring a character with unique skills. The abilities: hacking cell phones, cameras, and automobiles. The game: Watch Dogs. I will admit such an ability increases the factor of fun in a game that is considered a delicious mess of other games, but a frightening question arises from the game. Are the hacks done in the game possible in real life? It is an honest question that is necessary to answer because we live in a technologically connected world. Fortunately for us, this has been answered… and unfortunately for us, the answer is “yes.”

Thanks to the YouTube channel Vsauce3, their uploaded video explained how it is possible to hack almost anything technological, and it is a little over seven minutes. As for the video itself, it is in the top 20 for most popular YouTube videos (for the time being) and sits at over half a million views. Not bad for a video that was uploaded on July 2, 2014. As for some readers, the views in three days seem low but take into account this is not an entertainment video. This is a frightening possibility enforced by fact-based examples. Also, from personal experience, people would rather enjoy beautiful lies than hard truths.

Back on topic, our host Jake explains and shows three forms of technology that are primary in the video game Watch Dogs, and how they can be hacked in real life. The first are security cameras. The only people who are supposed to see you in a security camera are security officers right? Unfortunately, all it takes is a couple of Google searches to gain access to security camera feeds. Sometimes you may even have the ability to control the camera itself. Second are cell phones. This is actually common knowledge by now. Most people — including you — have cell phones and what do they almost all have? They have a microphone, camera, personal data, saved passwords, programs, links to personal accounts such as banking accounts… and they are all wi-fi enabled. How many websites have been hacked on the regular internet with security and fire walls? Imagine that same attack on unprotected lines such as cell phone connections. The final form of technology are automobiles. We here at The Inquisitr actually reported how a car can be hacked since they operate mostly by computers, so that’s not an impossibility either.

There is so much more information that Vsauce3 gives out on what can be hacked including pacemakers and insulin shots. That alone is probably more frightening than when we reported eBay was hacked or when teenagers hacked an ATM. If the possibilities in the video become basic public knowledge, we surely are at the end of personal privacy, and for some, the end of their well-being.
