MasterChef, a widely popular culinary gauntlet, is coming back for season 5. Recently the contestants were revealed, and now reality TV junkies await the premiere.
All walks of life flocked to cities all over the country to compete for the coveted title of MasterChef. According to Broadway World, open calls for contestants took place in the following cities: Chicago, IL; Columbus, OH; Denver, CO; Houston, TX; Kansas City, MO; Los Angeles, CA; New Orleans, LA; New York, NY; Orlando, FL; Philadelphia, PA; and Phoenix, AZ. The 30 contestants that will represent fourteen different states include a video game designer from LA, a call center rep from Ohio, and a church music director from Houston.
Just days ago, Gordon Ramsay offered a sneak peek into what is being dubbed as the most ‘intense’ season thus far. He and his fellow coaches went on record with E! Online to discuss what fans can expect out of this new season:
The fact that the contestants are on fire, the judges are coming in hard, hitting hard, raising the bar, making the challenges exciting.’ said Graham Elliot of season 5
Speaking of Graham Elliot, fans might notice a more slender version during season 5. According to Huffington Post, Elliot lost a stunning 150 pounds during the “off” season of MasterChef. In an interview, Graham said that he simply eats “food that just gives me energy,” in his own words. He also admits that he previously would stress eat and now he simply cannot do that anymore.
It would appear that aside from Elliot’s inspirational weight loss, the season premiere, which airs May 26th at 8 pm eastern time on Fox, is already creating quite a buzz. Of course, the three coaches will return and fans can expect the same rough and tumble straight shooting that is so indicative of both Ramsay and Bastianich.
This year, the show will start off a little differently than before. In season 5, the previously selected top 30 MasterChef contestants will travel to Los Angeles to serve their best dish to the three MC pros. Once in LA, the 30 will be whittled down. From that point, contestants will vie for the title through completing a series of culinary challenges that include: working in teams to feed more than 500 hungry servicemen and women on an army base, creating an unforgettable three-course meal for a summer wedding, visiting a local diner to prepare American classics, cooking a romantic dinner for 14 couples, serving game-day favorites for hungry football fans, and taking command of a legendary Hollywood restaurant.
The heat is on for MasterChef Season 5. Are you ready?
