Ellen DeGeneres Will Produce And Star In Design Competition Show
Crowd favorite Ellen DeGeneres has proven she is able to wear many hats with ease, having voiced animated character, hosted the Academy Awards, and become a prominent figure in the fight for LGBT rights. In addition to all that, Ellen also delights audiences with her own talk show. Now, she’s poised to conquer cable-television.
Earlier today, The Hollywood Reporter exclusively announced that Ellen will partner with the HGTV cable channel to kick off a furniture design competition that pits six contestants against one another in an effort to win a cash prize.
Reportedly, the show will be called Ellen’s Design Challenge, and from the details that have been released so far, it seems ready to live up to the “challenge” part of its name. Ellen will explain to the competitors how they must sketch plans, design and build furnishings and win over a panel of judges within a daunting 24-hour period.
Luckily, DeGeneres is known for a bubbly and infectious personality, so if anyone can inject some humor into the ordeal, she’s the woman for the job. The expectations of the reality show seem able to strike fear into the hearts of even experienced designers. Add television cameras to the mix, and it should be clear why HGTV wanted someone with the lovable personality of Ellen DeGeneres to be associated with the show.
Ellen has also explained how she has a true passion for furniture and home design. That’s probably yet another reason why network executives decided Ellen DeGeneres was an ideal choice for a person to be at the helm when the program premieres next year.
In addition to the traditionally-broadcast television show that DeGeneres will lead, the entertainment offering will also come with a six-part supplemental series that’s offered through the Internet. The multimedia format is good news for people who like to consume entertainment in several ways. Although there’s no word whether the online material will also feature DeGeneres, it will reportedly give more insight into the lives of the brave competitors.
Fortunately for them, they won’t have to be creative entirely without guidance. DeGeneres will probably be there to provide comic relief during tense moments, but a master carpenter will also be on hand, presumably to give the suggestions as each wannabe designer tries to let his or her creative juices flow while trying to ignore the ticking clock.
It’ll be interesting to see if Ellen DeGeneres has a continual string of successful ventures with this latest endeavor, but if history is any indication, she has nothing to fear.
