Miley Cyrus got a viral invite to the senior prom after one brave fan put himself out there in a very public way.
High school student Matt Peterson really wanted the 21-year-old pop star to accompany him to the school dance, the culmination of a long obsession with the former Hannah Montana. So this week Peterson threw together a prom ask video that’s gone viral, one that shows him pleading for her company and even stripping down naked with a foam finger and bouquet of roses.
“I have been a fan of yours from the beginning. You’ve changed my life, and I want to repay you by giving you the best night of your life,” Matt wrote, recapping his long history of fandom. Peterson noted that in 2009 he waited outside a KissFM studio at 3 am to get a chance to meet Miley Cyrus, and a few months later she gave him a shout out at a concert.
With the first date out of the way, Peterson figured he would take the relationship to the next level and ask Miley to accompany him to the prom.
After a long wait, Matt finally got his answer — no.
But it wasn’t all bad, as Miley Cyrus suggested a makeup date.
‘Dear Matt Peterson, I don’t think I’ll be able to make it to prom BUT why don’t you come to my AZ show & hang w me? Don’t forget a corsage,” Miley tweeted on Saturday, along with an smiley face kiss.
The move follows in a recent trend of fearless fans asking out their favorite celebrities through viral videos.
In 2011 a Virginia-based Marine put together a video asking Justin Timberlake to her military ball, to which the singer/actor gladly agreed. Last year a Los Angeles high school student who asked bikini model Kate Upton to his prom. Kate couldn’t make it, but Danish Sports Illustrated swimsuit model Nina Agdal ended up going in her place.
Even though he got a “no,” Matt seemed thrilled with Miley’s answer.
“I need a tongue tuxedo made by the 27th. THIS IS THE BEST DAY OF MY WHOLE ENTIRE LIFE!!!
#mileyprom,” he enthusiastically replied on Twitter.
Miley Cyrus seems excited for her date with Matt Peterson as well, tweeting “PuHlEaSe” in response.
