Carly Rae Jepsen Tells Prince Charming To Call Her, Maybe, As New Broadway Cinderella

Here’s hoping Carly Rae Jepsen’s feet fit better into glass slippers than they do in baseball cleats as the Canadian songbird is now slated as the newest incarnation of Cinderella on the stage.

“I am going to be playing Cinderella on Broadway starting Feb. 4th!” Carly Rae said via her Twitter account, @CarlyRaeJepsen.

According to the Hollywood Reporter, Carly Rae is set to make her debut on the Great White Way in Rodgers & Hammerstein’s Cinderella starting Feb. 4. THR reports that Jepsen will be with the show for a 12-week run, replacing Tony award-nominee Laura Osnes after one year’s tenure.

Joining the Cinderella cast just days before Carly Rae Jepsen is Fran Drescher, who will be replacing Harriet Harris in the role of Madame, the wicked stepmother.

So, in the wake of two Grammy nominations, recording a song from Disney’s The Little Mermaid, and shortly after wrapping up a headlining tour, Carley Rae Jepsen will be getting bossed around by The Nanny? Why not take a vacation, Carly Rae?

“Broadway has been a dream of mine since I was a little girl, and I look forward to working with this incredibly talented cast to tell this classic tale,” said Jepsen via THR.

Oh, well then that makes sense.

“My favorite part of the school year was our trip to New York, where we met Broadway performers and toured the theaters,” Jepsen said in an email to the New York Times.

“It’s so hopeful and inspiring,” Jepsen said of Cinderella. “I’ve always been one to believe in the impossible, so I relate to her character completely.”

The move is intriguing for Carly Rae, whose hit, “Call Me, Maybe” evokes fairy tale love and may as well have been written to Prince Charming himself.

I threw a wish in the well / Don’t ask me, I’ll never tell / I looked to you as it fell / And now you’re in my way.

I’d trade my soul for a wish / Pennies and dimes for a kiss / I wasn’t looking for this / But now you’re in my way.

What do you think of Carly Rae Jepsen in the role of Cinderella?
