Most of the time, celebrities throw themselves lavish wedding ceremonies, the cost of which eclipses the lifetime income of your average American. Not Dax Shepard and Kristen Bell, though. Their wedding only cost them $142. That includes gas.
The Parenthood star visited “Jimmy Kimmel Live” this week to talk about his recent nuptials, which took place on October 17 at the Beverly Hills County Clerk’s office. The two married after six years of being together, following a promise that they would forgo a wedding until the Supreme Court struck down the Defense of Marriage Act.
Now that that’s over with, Shepard and Bell were cleared to marry and decided to do so the old fashioned way: A shotgun, courthouse wedding.
“Friends of ours came to the courthouse, and it was just Kristen and I at this lonely courthouse, so they brought us this cake afterwards,” Shepard revealed. “‘The World’s Worst Wedding.’ How many people can say they threw ‘The World’s Worst Wedding?'”
Still, they both seem to be more than pleased about the way it all went down. Bell recently told People magazine that she was “still on a high” about it.
“We actually did it. I can officially call him my husband, which is pretty awesome. Other than that, it feels exactly the same.”
The couple are also staying busy with their 7-month-old daughter Lincoln.
“Life is great,” said Bell. “I couldn’t be happier.”
Bell is busy filming the new season of her Showtime series House of Lies, and has also been promoting her new Disney animated film Frozen, which will release in theaters on November 27.
Let’s talk weddings. Like Dax Shepard and Kristen Bell, would you get married for $142? How much do you think people should spend on their nuptials?
