It isn’t likely that WWE and NJPW are going to have any kind of inter-promotional shows together anytime soon. Wrestlers from around the world are friends with each other, have worked with one another, and still like to tease each other. Well, Kenny Omega continues to take little jabs at other promotions and one of his latest promos have him taking shots at WWE and WrestleMania 32. Is a feud between WWE and New Japan Pro Wrestling brewing?
Wrestling Inc. is reporting that Kenny Omega, the IWGP Intercontinental Champion, was in a match at NJPW’s Invasion Attack event on Saturday night and decided to take a shot at WWE. He teamed with Bullet Club Elite members, The Young Bucks, to take on Yoshi Tatsu, Michael Elgin, and Tanahashi for the NEVER Openweight Six-Man Tag Titles.
At the beginning of the match, eventually lost by the Bullet Club, Omega decided to let the people in the crowd know what he thought about himself and WWE.
As stated earlier, The Bullet Club Elite lost the match and the Six-Man Tag Titles in Yoshi Tatsu’s first match in 18 months, according to WrestleZone. Tatsu had his neck broken in a match with AJ Styles after taking a Styles Clash wrong.
In an interesting note, back in January, Kenny Omega and the Bullet Club turned on AJ Styles as he was leaving NJPW for WWE. The stable took out Styles and it moved Omega up into the leadership role and the new name of The Bullet Club Elite.
Styles is now in WWE and will be challenging Roman Reigns for the WWE World Heavyweight Title soon, but the Bullet Club hasn’t let things go.
In February, the Young Bucks and Omega, holding the NEVER Openweight Six-Man Tag Titles at the time, issued a challenge to The New Day. Nothing much was said in return at the time, but a week ago, The New Day not only accepted the challenge but let it be known that they are the best wrestling trio in the world.
Still, it’s hard to think that NJPW and WWE will do anything together anytime soon.
ROH and NJPW do have a very good relationship with one another, and it seems as if that is working for them at this time. Ring of Honor has since joined in partnerships with Pro Wrestling Guerrilla and that is working for them as well,
While Kenny Omega and the Young Bucks keep throwing shots at WWE, it doesn’t appear like that is leading anywhere at this time. NJPW may also not be overly thrilled with the fact that WWE has recently signed a number of their big stars.
The working relationship that NJPW has with Ring of Honor is one that has been built over the past few years, and it’s a good one. They have a talent exchange situation in place as well, and it’s hard to think that is ending anytime soon. With Kenny Omega and the Bullet Club constantly referencing WWE though, one has to wonder if something else may be in the works.
