‘WWE NXT’ Spoiler-Free Preview: July 6 — Tag Team Championship Match & Bayley vs. Alexa Bliss

With the WWE Draft coming up on July 19, the WWE Universe and NXT Universe have been speculating as to which NXT Superstars will get called up to the main roster. Finn Bálor has been an impressive force at Full Sail University long enough that Shinsuke Nakamura labeled him the “NXT Icon.” Could Finn’s program with The King of Strong Style be his last in WWE’s developmental league? Or will Bálor stick around long enough to have a match at NXT TakeOver: Back to Brooklyn the night before WWE SummerSlam 2016? Neither man is set to make an appearance on this week’s WWE NXT, but it’s likely their upcoming match will be promoted more than once.

In the same conversation as Finn Bálor is former NXT Women’s Champion Bayley and former NXT Tag Team Champions American Alpha. All have risen to the top of their respective divisions in NXT and appear to be ready to contend with their peers on the Monday Night RAW and WWE SmackDown rosters. Incidentally, both Bayley and American Alpha have matches on this week’s episode of WWE NXT that have direct implications towards the titles they used to hold.

WWE continues to undersell their weekly WWE NXT offerings in their official NXT preview by only promoting one segment of the show from the hottest brand in professional wrestling. But as usual, multiple high-quality NXT matches are on the card this week, including the women’s division and tag team division.

Note: While the following matches haven’t all been listed at WWE’s website, they have been posted in a spoiler report at Daily DDT that also lists matches for July 13 and July 20 . An unconfirmed NXT TakeOver: Back to Brooklyn card follows the preview for this week’s show.

Spoiler-free match list — July 6

The matches for this week’s episode of WWE NXT were taped at Full Sail University in Orlando, Florida, on Friday, July 1.

  • Bayley vs. Alexa Bliss – This match was set up during last week’s episode of WWE NXT and is certain to have an impact on the NXT Women’s Championship scene.
  • The Hype Bros vs. Blake & Murphy – While the main event is a match for the NXT Tag Team Championship, these two teams will try to prove that the entire NXT Tag Team Division is still on fire.
  • 2-Out-Of-3 Falls NXT Tag Team Championship Match: The Revival (c) vs. American Alpha – This title match was also set last week in a segment which saw Johnny Gargano and Tomasso Ciampa claim they deserved a title shot and the Authors of Pain (accompanied by Paul Ellering) came out to beat down both American Alpha and the indie darlings.
  • Additionally, at least one major star makes an unexpected return to Full Sail University and NXT.
