‘WWE NXT’ Results: Bayley Vs. Nia Jax And Steel Cage Match For ‘NXT TakeOver’

As Shane McMahon’s “New Era” of talent on the WWE’s main roster builds towards WWE Extreme Rules 2016 this weekend, the NXT Superstars and NXT Universe look forward to NXT TakeOver, now less than three weeks away. As is generally the case, the NXT special is borrowing from the theme of the current WWE special, so the match between Samoa Joe and Finn Balor was given a stipulation that makes it an “extreme” match indeed.

NOTE: The following contains the full results and spoilers for the episode of WWE NXT that first aired on the WWE Network on May 18.

By the end of this week’s episode of WWE NXT, we know who will be challenging for two of NXT’s three titles at TakeOver, and a pretty good hint is dropped for the third. If that wasn’t enough, viewers were able to see plenty of the high-quality, in-ring action that has become expected of WWE’s developmental league. Those performing at Full Sail University include the likes of Shinsuke Nakamura, Austin Aries, Nia Jax, Bayley, Carmella, Tomasso Ciampa, Johnny Gargano, and more.

WWE NXT results: 5/18/16

The following matches and segments for tonight’s episode were taped at Full Sail University on April 28.

  • Austin Aries and Shinsuke Nakamura defeated Blake and Murphy. A little tension was expressed between Aries and Nakamura when Shinsuke went for his finisher and the pin rather than tagging in Austin. After the loss, Alexa Bliss left Blake and Murphy at ringside. Moments later, Blake bailed on Murphy. Later in the show, a backstage segment was shown in which Alexa dumps the tag team to focus on her own career. It wasn’t 100 percent clear whether not Blake and Murphy were going their separate ways or keeping the team together.
  • In a backstage interview, Bayley says that she’s focused on regaining the NXT Women’s Championship, and beating Nia Jax is one step in that direction.
  • A video package was put together featuring NXT Women’s Champion Asuka that was played along with Halestorm’s song “Mayhem.”
  • No Way Jose was interviewed backstage about his enormous smile.
  • A pre-recorded promo was shown of Carmella talking about Enzo Amore and Big Cass moving up to the main roster.
  • Carmella defeated Peyton Royce.
  • Footage was shown of a live NXT event in Portland, Oregon, in which the locker room emptied to keep Samoa Joe and Finn Balor separated. This resulted in William Regal announcing that the NXT Championship Match at NXT TakeOver will be a Steel Cage Match.
  • Tommaso Ciampa and Johnny Gargano defeated Danny Burch and Rob Rizin.
  • William Regal announced that American Alpha would defend the NXT Tag Team Championships against The Revival at NXT TakeOver.
  • Nia Jax defeated Bayley in the main event. Bayley was struggling even to get to her feet by the end.

No matches were announced for next week’s WWE NXT, as the TV taping for the May 25 episode have not happened yet.
