WWE News: Triple H And Kurt Angle Didn’t Meet At Arnold Classic

From the archive: published Mar 17, 2016, 10 years ago. Details may have changed since.

Both Triple H and former WWE World Heavyweight Champion Kurt Angle both attended the Arnold Classic over the weekend, and because of that, many believed that the two ended up meeting at some point during the event. In fact, there were multiple reports that the two did meet, and that they finalized a deal that would bring Angle back to WWE.

This past Monday’s RAW was in Kurt Angle’s hometown of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. So, because there were reports coming out that the two met over the weekend, many started to believe that Angle would be showing up on RAW . But that didn’t happen, and neither did a meeting between Angle and WWE’s chief operating officer.

According to the Wrestling Observer, Triple H and Kurt Angle didn’t interact at all during the Arnold Classic. It also looks like WWE still isn’t interested in bringing Angle back.

“Regarding the Kurt Angle rumors, while you never can say never in wrestling, WWE has consistently not been interested in him in ten years. Regarding the report we had of Triple H and Angle seeing each other at the Arnold Fitness Expo last week, according to those close to the situation, while both were there, the report was not the case and there was no interaction between the two.”

Kurt Angle has said that he is pretty much done with TNA, and as of this moment, he is a free agent. So, if WWE was interested in him, then they could make him an offer.

Before the conclusion of his “TNA farewell tour,” Angle said that he would take a year off from professional wrestling after his contract with TNA expired. However, he’s getting right back in the ring, as he’s set to wrestle Rey Mysterio at this Sunday’s UR Fight show in Phoenix, Arizona. It’ll be the first match between the two in nearly a decade.

It’s unclear what Angle will do after his match with Rey Mysterio. There’s been some talk of him having one MMA fight in Bellator against someone like Kimbo Slice or Ken Shamrock. But it was recently reported that both Shamrock and Kimbo failed their Bellator 149 pre-fight drug-tests, and it’s unclear what their punishment will be. If they both get hit with a heavy fine and suspension, then Angle vs. either Shamrock or Kimbo would be unlikely.

Angle has said that he would fight Dan Severn or Royce Gracie as well. But again, there’s a slim chance of either of those fights actually coming together.

There is a chance that WWE could bring Angle back at some point next year, and induct him into the WWE Hall of Fame. He’s certainly a worthy candidate, and he has said that he would be interested in a Hall of Fame induction.

If Angle were to return to WWE in a wrestling role, then it would probably be for only one or two matches. In the past, he’s said that he wants to wrestle Daniel Bryan. But Bryan is now retired, so that match cannot happen.

He’s also said that he’d like to get in the ring with Brock Lesnar. So a one-on-one match between our “Olympic Hero” and “The Beast” could happen.

Unfortunately though, Angle’s neck is in pretty rough shape, and WWE has told guys like Edge, “Stone Cold” Steve Austin, and most recently Sting that they could never wrestle again due to neck issues similar to the ones that Angle has. So, it’s not likely that they’d make an exception for Angle when they wouldn’t make an exception for the three aforementioned WWE Hall of Famers.
